MIAMI -- A Miami police officer was arrested Wednesday evening accused of killing his K-9 partner.
Sgt. Allen Cockfield, a 27-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department, was arrested and charged with one count of an offense against a police dog and one count of cruelty to animals.
Detectives said during a training exercise in June of 2006, Cockfield kicked his German shepherd, Duke, numerous times until it died. ( Don't tell me they are only human)
Cockfield had been relieved of duty since the onset of the investigation.
After the case was reviewed by the State Attorney's Office, an arrest warrant was issued.
Cockfield surrendered Wednesday afternoon to investigators at the Turner-Gilford Knight Correctional Center where he was booked
