British didn't force Americans to speak anything, the early colonies were British, the people that lived in them were British. Don't they teach you history at school?

Please, get real, this is not a about bilingualism, this is about Spanish speakers wanting to remake this country for their needs and desires. If they wanted to be a bigger player on the world stage they would be promoting Mandarin Chinese.
This is about Spanish speakers wants to be accommodated in Spanish. Why have there been no movements in Spanish speaking counties to learn English so that they do can compete on the worlds stage

compete? how would that help the USA compete? the EU people dont speak spanish? China, Japan, Korea... people dont speak spanish there either.
If polylingualism is the ticket to economic competition with the EU etc.. then Spanish would not be the language to learn to compete it would certainly be a language that people in the EU or Asia spoke.

The British did not force English on the colonies, we were almost a German speaking nation. English is now the language of power, hence why it is not essential.

I personally think it is a good idea to learn as many languages as possible but with the proper resources of course. But what gets me are jobs that make it manditory for you to be bilingual. it should be a choice.

Because other peoples become bi-lingual because the don't already speak English. It's the common language of globalization. Blame the Brits, if you must assign blame, it was thier empire.

because americans see everone else beneath them. Speaking another language is lowering themselves instead of expanding their world.Americans make fun of people who speak spanish thinking they are stupid not relizing these people speak two languages. In europe just about everyone speaks two tongues.Your almost an idiot if you cant.
