How does greed betray trust. Beyond that we should really only blame ourselves for the reason that politicians need large amounts of money in order to campaign.

You could never eliminate all corruption from politics. If you insist on punishing corrupt politicians, we could simply execute them as they leave office. Call it term limits - with teeth.

democracy, autocracy, dictatorship, the list goes on
