MIAMI -- A Miami police officer was arrested Wednesday evening accused of killing his K-9 partner.
Sgt. Allen Cockfield, a 27-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department, was arrested and charged with one count of an offense against a police dog and one count of cruelty to animals.
Detectives said during a training exercise in June of 2006, Cockfield kicked his German shepherd, Duke, numerous times until it died. ( Don't tell me they are only human)
Cockfield had been relieved of duty since the onset of the investigation.
After the case was reviewed by the State Attorney's Office, an arrest warrant was issued.
Cockfield surrendered Wednesday afternoon to investigators at the Turner-Gilford Knight Correctional Center where he was booked

I guess we're all looking for attentionT-Bone35 , do you really think I don't know how to get it, without "Yahoo answrs?" I could dye my hair green and pink for a start.T-Bone35,I don't represent anyone but my SELF. It sounds like I represented something to you, or you wouldn't be so violent towards me. (Your mother perhaps?) Yes T-Bone35 , violence comes in mysterious ways it's wonders to perform, including verbal. But you'd know that kind of mind game, wouldn't you? Of course you would.

I think someone should kick him to death.
There is absolutely no reason for that, even if the dog did turn on him. Those dogs are highly trained and extremely responsive/submissive to their handlers. There is a lot of respect on both ends between a K9 and it's handler.
Like I was saying before, the officers are taught how to deal with a K9 that has turned and it surely doesn't invlove kicking it to death.

I think that even police officers abuse their power. I know that this 27 year officer has done a great injustice to a poor animal. I know that injustice to animals as well as humans exist but the police should make sure that they do not protect any officer of "losing it" and let us hope he is removed from the force and given a punishment that he will soon not forget.

They should use this guy to test all the tasers with, might be kinda cool watching him try to kick at everything else. This guy is a dirtbag and should be treated the same as anyone one of the regular people who would have been charged with assault on a police office and homicide.......

Too bad I found this so late. It is STANDARD treatment of K9 s to kick them, hang them to unconsciousness, swing them around in the air by their leashes and choke collars (called helicoptering, because the dog flies around like a helicopter blade), and slammed to the ground. And so much more. Torturing the dogs is routine. I don t know if website links are allowed here, but type in Denials and Justifications in your browser.

Many killers and violent offenders have animal abuse their history. I hope they lock this idiot up for a long time. That poor dog feels the exact same pain a human would.

Not sure what was his motive but from a different point of view, it might be an accident or the dog might hav gone out of control. If so happened then he's motive was clear.

Yeah he's going away for a while. Police dogs are just as valued as their Officer counterparts.
Bastard deserves it.

Okay, is this cop off his rocker or something? This is the kind of hypocritical behaviour that turns me off about cops. All the other K-9 officers should be ashamed and those aspiring should steer clear of this example.
Just because a dog would not follow orders doesn't mean you should kick it to death. He should be dishonourably discharged.
And no offense, Zoe, but even though I am disgusted by this behaviour, I looked at this question, and thought it was that Snoop Dogg. I would expect this kind of behaviour from him, anyway.

Like I told your silly partner. 700,000 cops in this country and you point out the few dozen that commit crime and try to label all police.
If it were any other group people would shout you down as a bigot.
I just think you are challenged.
edti:
Okay Snoop, show me where I just threatened someone. I will simplify my answer so you can understand.
Many cops, some bad, not all.
Is that easier for you? I can't think of a way to make it simpler.
As for your threat. I do not believe you think I am going to fly to NY to meet you at the park. I have never had a man invite me to meet at the park before. You're not actually trying to ask me out are you? I'm sorry, I didn't learn that kind of behaviour in jail like you seem to have.
