Failed Baghdad security plan forces US rethink by Paul Schemm


BAGHDAD (AFP) - American forces were seeking new ways to stem the slaughter in Baghdad after previous tactics failed to halt a wave of sectarian violence and led instead to more US casualties.

With violence raging unchecked in Iraq's capital, a US military spokesman has acknowledged the situation is "disheartening" and that a much-vaunted joint US-Iraq security plan is under review.

I'm a moderate Liberal, but should my Dems win just because they are the 'other guys'? This is just stupid! We need a multi party system in America! If both the current parties resist having more parties brought into the power structure, than it must be the right thing to do. With only two parties that trade off power, they can play off each other without having to make any real changes. Dem or Repub, a congressman is a congressman and isn't going to vote to reduce their own pay. Will a third, fourth, and fifth party in America ever be realistic or viable?

what is your opinion of it especially the part about all the ways republicans cheated in 2004 (don't answer if you aren't willing or able to read it as I am looking for intelligent responses from people who actually will read it. What if anything can be done to fix the problem? I guess it doesn't matter if you are losing..just purge 500,000 voters or 10% and your oppoents 12% lead vanishes making it easir to stel the rest through your many other means of cheating..

According to Americans the always follow the diplomatic route and war is only a last alternative, of course this is from a man who declared himself a 'war' president, so how then is America always falling on the last resort, Iraq 2, Iraq 1, Kosovo, Grenada, Vietnam, Korea.
