I do know that American citizens are not exempt from this new law, and that only the President's opinion is all that matters, without ANY evidence needed. Is this the end of the American system of jurisprudence? With the suspension of the right of habeas corpus, are ANY of us safe from arrest and torture?

I had a descussion with a friend of mines, and he stated that the Gov. can't change the constitution, I stated that they can't but they can reword it to fit their needs (i.e. the right to bear arms, they could tell us that it ment we have the right to live with 2 arms, sorry, not a good example, but you know what i meant) it's all about perception, and what if the gov, took the constitution, and changed it to percieve something else?

The way I see it is republicans are considered straight laced conservative people.I live in Nashville Tn. and we are asked to vote whether or not we want the state to only consider a man and woman to be a married couple,in my neighborhood I have alot of republicansneighbors and they have put signs of support in their yards but I noticed that the same folks have signs that say vote no on the issue of considering a married couple to be a man and woman.IM CONFUSED.....I thought these are the same people that dont believe in a woman's right to abort a child and the ones that believe the country should be ran on God's law ....I appreciate your comments THANKS

I've been watching ABC news all week, and Diane Sawyer is over in North Korea interviewing the public, and seeing what their life there is like. All the people she interviewed seemed normal, happy and proud of there country. Is it that they are so oppressed, they don’t know there oppressed, or is it that they are so fearful of there government their too afraid to speak out about how they really feel?

I went to court two years ago fighting for full sole custody of my son and change of last name,The judge told me that since the dad was not present at the time that I couldnt chage the last name that I had to wait a year to give him time to show up, but I oviously gave it another year to make more time, but nothing has improved, my son's father has not been in his life for 10 years and I would say he has abandon him, So now two years it's been more than enough time now I want to follow up and change his last name,I want my husband to adopted him and be his legal guardian,
Please give me some advice on what I should do..
Thank You

In reading and asking political questions, I find that use of the word liberal in the text will immediately engender negative feelings and an attack mentality. The word conservative does not necessarily produce the same response, but sometimes does. Conservatives seem to be openly proud of their ideology, while many liberals seek to reclassify themselves using other terms. I am not saying liberals aren't proud, just that they do not seem to be proud of the term. I am not talking about questions that seek to defame one side or the other, but rather questions which require an explanation of the answerer's beliefs and opinions. Both are just words and should not immeditely place people on the defensive without further discovery and yet they still do.

What say you?

Are the laws in all States the same? Say someone has a 18 year old burglary charge, 5 year old robbery, and now is faced with posession of a controlled substance and trafficing with an inmate. They offered a plea of 2 years, do 1. He didn't accept the plea and now they say they are going to file an obbitual on him which carries 10 years in prison. The public Defender and him do not see eye to eye and he seems to not have have an open mind to his best interest. Should he ask for a new Public Defender? That will buy a little more time. The circumstances in which he caught the trafficing charge are complicated. The WOMEN that was in the medical cell next to him asked him if he was sick, which he was. Coming off of Methadone and Heroin which has many side affects such as withdrawel, vomiting, insomnia, (hadn't slept in 5 or 6 days) and hallucinating. She says "I got what you need". He had no idea this women was going to throw a methadone pill under his cell door. She did, and he was caught

The Millitary Commissions Act says that "alien military combatents" can be arrested without a trial, laywer, or bail hearing. So it doesn't technically apply to citizens. But if they arrested a citizen and called you an alien military combatent, how would you prove you were a citizen? You don't get a trial, laywer, or bail hearing.

I was wondering how this would work. Don't just answer by saying it is for our protection or something else that doesn't answer the question.
