When it comes to political affiliations there are what most people call "core values". The basics of what the party stands for. You pick your political party based on what you believe, but if some thing comes up in an election that you feel differently about, most people will vote their conscience, not their party. Gay Marriage, if a fairly new issue. They've been voting on abortion, women's rights, and the fine line between church and state for years. If people agreed with the Republican party on all those issues it doesn't mean they will feel the same about gay marriage. Some people lean towards the conservatinve side due to the issues, other due to the taxes. You really can't expect to be able to divide the entire country into only two parties, there are too many gray areas. I for one, am impressed by the people who believe in something so strongly they are willing to put up signs in an area full of people votong the other way. Vote what you feel, not what your "party" is voting

Being a Republican or a Democrat is no different then being a Ford or Chevy, its a name, or title. What you have to look at is the values a PERSON shows. While it is considered that most republicans are conservative, I am a conservative Democrat. It can also be said that most Democrats are Liberals, but again, not all.

The difference I see is that conservatives believe in family values, that you know more of how to live your life and dont need big brother telling you how. They believe that you know best what to do with your money, than sending it to the Government. they believe that you should not spend more than you take in like our Government does.

Liberals on the other hand, believe the average person doesnt know what they want in life, that Government must always be there to support them, that only congress knows whats best for the people, and those that have money, need to pay more taxes so those that dont work, will have money.

Buried in the liberal slant is the Gay rights movement, the PETA crowd, and the Environmentalists who think they know more than you do.

I take my money, buy food, pay bills, buy vehicles, washers and dryers and such, which means some company has to make more of what I buy to replace it, which means more people are put to work, which means they pay taxes, and they busy stuff too, Ooops, sounds like Reaganomics dont it?!?!?

People, common sense should prevail but doesnt. where else but a communist country do politicans follow what the party says and not what they know is right of the people.

Your question should be, " Understanding the hardliners in either party and what makes them tick."

It will become glaring to all and sundry analyzing your questions which you're an exceedingly prejudicial guy or woman. Obama is indefensible. All of his time table is utopian. that's some thing that's no longer attained in this earth. Noble? sure. useful? No. you may no longer remedy each and every problem interior the international via blowing smoke and throwing funds at it. If that became some thing that ought to be finished the Democrats might desire to have succeeded a protracted time in the past. Affirmative action via in line with capita has achieved relatively little to alter all and sundry's plight. If the Democratic leaders are so all understanding why have not those with get admission to to affirmative action classes, public housing and welfare more suitable considering those classes took consequence? they shop feeding you the comparable desire and alter and that they nevertheless might desire to because of the fact they have replaced so little in such alongside time. each time the have the better hand they spend us into extra nationwide debt. no longer deficit (purely applies to annual funds) debt (applies to what the united statesauthorities owe all and sundry). they have no situation for what you owe.

Just because a person leans one way does not mean they agree completely with the party they lean towards. It is quite possible to agree with a woman's choice, but not with gay marriage, or vice versa. By the way, not all Republicans "believe the country should be ran on God's law." That is just liberal propaganda used to scare non-believers into thinking the Republican party wants to set up a Christian State.

I live in East TN. I think some may think that is a personal issue, not necessarily one to be decided by the government ,whether it or they, be Republican or Democrat. I also think some people want to be perceived as politically correct.

There is a wide spectrum of political beliefs out there. The ultra-conservative probably are against gay marriage and against abortion. The extremely liberal are probably for acknowledging gay marriage and pro-choice. And those who are not at the extremes can vary on their views on abortion/gay marriage and other issues and still have a general leaning towards either the right or left.

The Republican party no longer represents conservative thought. A real conservative is pro choice - anti drug law - pro gay rights and - anti censorship. The believe in separation of church and state. All of this is consistent with the belief that government should leave you the hell alone to do as you please as long as you are not hurting anybody else.

Republicans generally have more traditional values and feel they should be preserved and maintained, prefer a smaller, less intrusive government (resulting in lower taxes), are pro life, have Strong religious convictions, and believe in a strong military for defense. There are variations of course.
