Because British workers are paid more than their counterparts in Eastern Europe or the Far East, partially because the average British worker has far more overhead than those two areas in particular. You won't find the kind of social support structure in those areas. If you find yourself unemployed, you probably won't be supported by the taxpayer in those areas, neither will the state support your children. The health and education services are probably pretty rudimentary also.
The outcome is that providing the country is politically stable your average UK board member will see moving their operation abroad if at all possible to be an attractive prospect, as a way of minimising overheads (wages).
This is why most banks and insurance companies have moved their call centres to India together and many companies IT support groups have gone the same route. The fact that you can barely understand a word is neither here nor there.
Manufacturing industry went years ago, now service industries are going the same way.
Eastern Europeans come here to work, generally doing low paid jobs that nobody else can afford to do, because they are probably single with no dependants in this country. They probably live with a group, in low expense digs and when they eventually go home, if indeed they ever do, what they will have earned will probably set them up for several years, becaue as we all know you get 10 billion kopecs to the pound. :o)
Politicians like it because it helps to make us more competetive in the global economy. But logically I expect all our social support services to slowly degrade. Health, Education, Policing, Social Services will all suffer, as the number and amount of tax squeezed from the remaining pips (taxpayers) reduces.
Quite where this will all end is open to speculation.

This is a very good question, simple and direct. The answer is far reaching, a domino effect of NAFTA, Taxation issues and Production cost. When Levi strauss closed it's factory in the U.S. it was but one of many following the beaten trail to Mexico where production costs are but a fraction of doing business in the U.S. So the labor, taxes and overall costs are diminished but people still flock to the US for an ideal quality of life be it for better or worse. Many foreigners arrive expecting great things and realize too little too late that it's not the land of milk and honey.

The fundamental point of trading between nations is demand and supply, of both materials and labour. The economy in the UK has moved away from manufacturing into more educational led, or higher skilled occupations, so the job market reflects these trends. Clearly, there is more money to be made in the UK and other western nations than in poor nations and so the labour market follows these trends. Manufacturing, production and other resource led industries are not necessarily "better" jobs than those in finance, service or other labour led jobs. Movement of labour should be encouraged as it leads to cross fertilisation of cultures and ideas and fosters a greater understanding between people, all of us are human, our only differences are in our cultures.

Well they are transferring work abroad to save money. Its sick to think of how many British jobs have been lost by callcentres going to India
And yet we have 10,000s of Poles coming here looking for work.
This country won't be able to take much more.

because the conditions are worse where we are sending the jobs. We still have the lowest unemployment rate that we've seen in decades of 4.6%. The reason a lot of our manufacturing has gone off shore is to compete in the market. You will never have competition when you have a union around. The unions are the reason jobs are going away.

Consider it your contribution to global development. Look at it this way, when you see the economic life sucked out of your town when the factory closes, think of the Chinese and the Indians jumping for joy at the new factory they get. And when you see people in your community lose their will to live, think of it as a donation to world peace. As for why people keep coming here, it's because there are no border controls and they can.

i have someone in my family who's company went abroad with their customer service because its cheaper labor. the only problem is as more countries go abroad more people must be hired so it really isn't going to be cheaper in the long run,. and alot of people complain about understanding people from india which makes both parties fustrated because you can't clearly understand what they are saying , so some companies are changing back

Because stupid New McLabour and Greaseball Browns policies make everthing so expensive to produce, and bogs industry down with red tape and taxes.
Foreigners keep coming because this stupid Government showers them with money, houses etc and generally bends over backwards not to upset them - to the detriment of the inmates of our sad little country.

You are so uninformed, it is almost funny! In a world that is shrinking, where economies are consolidating (look at Europe), it is for the benefit of everybody concerned that goods and services should be produced or provided in the most economical manner. From your ignorence it seems you are an American. For your information, outsourcing has earned/saved billions for American firms. It is now up to them and your Government to better utilize that money, so that your lot may be improved.
Now, in order to do that, they would have to have more brains...so please outsource intellect too...in fact, you are already doing that in America.

Because our lovely Gordon Brown takes most of your salary and gives it to any scrounger that he can find...obviously word get's back to their countries and England becomes the number one place to head for.....other countries are not so stupid as us ...picture yourself in a Pakistani Post office, newly arrived with nowhere to go...tell them your sob story and hold out your hand for money as they do in the UK.....how much do you think you would receive....exactly zero, so why do they all come here to take our money and then try to kill us because our religion is different. Talk about a Nation of gullible drips, yes we in England of course.
