According to Americans the always follow the diplomatic route and war is only a last alternative, of course this is from a man who declared himself a 'war' president, so how then is America always falling on the last resort, Iraq 2, Iraq 1, Kosovo, Grenada, Vietnam, Korea. Could it be that the American govt. is just bad at diplomacy?

'Kurt L' did you, or the American nation ever stop and ask yourself why do these people want us dead? Could it be because American bombs are killing their families and friends?

When a senior member of the US Government tells the president of Pakistan to do what they say or they will bomb them back to the stone age I think it is fairly safe to say they don't do diplomacy. They seem to have changed their stance on North Korea, some say that they are getting wiser as they get further on in administration. More cynical people would say that there is no oil in North Korea and that they are unable to further commit their already overstretched armed forces to a Korean conflict.

It means DIPLOMACY is bad--for anyone who is in the right.
If one party is wronged by another, then 'peaceful negotiation and settlement' only works in favor of the wrong doer. And it leads to other wrong-doing parties being encouraged to do wrong.

Logically, the fact that two parties even have to resolve their differences means that one party is wrong. It only follows that if both parties leave the table 'feeling good', it's code for the 'guy in the right just got screwed.'

For example, if Israel had been allowed to soundly defeat Hezbollah, they'd have far fewer problems right now. Instead, only Hezbollah (a third rate terrorist underdog group--not even a state--with a stated mission to annihilate Israel) can claim an actual win. Incredible when you consider that Hezbollah started it and the UN freaked out when they realized that Hezbollah was about to get its tail kicked!

That's why Diplomacy does not work-it's fake, its unnatural.

If you think America is wrong, then of course, you would want a peaceful resolution. Right?

I think American is right. I think that people want us dead. Therefore, I want us to kill them first. See, Life really can be simple if your thinking is straight!

When was America ever any good at diplomacy? It is, after all, a mere 'fledgling nation'. After WWII the balance of power shifted suddenly, so the entire (western) world looked to the US as its new 'moral' leader, opposed to the USSR; I don't believe the States had the training and experience that is necessary to develop a true diplomatic tradition (something that Britain with its centuries of colonialism etc. had plenty of time to grow into). America is sadly blinkered and is incapable of looking into the future with a sense of perspective.

I believe only in diplomacy to resolve issues peacefully. The government's past peace efforts in the countries listed in your question is deplorable. Let's hope for a peaceful solution in the ongoing nuclear standoff in Iran and North Korea. The last thing we need is to destabilize the already tense Middle East and the Korean peninsula with Bush's plan for an expansion of his illegal war in both places!

Mao was credited with saying "All power comes out of the barrel of a gun". The Americans have more guns than anybody else so presumably this approach appealed to Bush, whose communication skills do not really lend themselves to diplomacy.

Diplomacy, like democracy are two words that the current US government likes to use, but have no comprehension of their meaning....besides who WANTS TO WORK THINGS OUT PEACEFULLY WHEN YOU CAN MAKE SO MUCH MORE MONEY BOMBING THE SH_T OUT OF ANOTHER COUNTRY!
FASCIST TYRANNY PREVAILS OVER DIPLOMACY FOR THE PRESENT...
War is terrorists, peace is for humans. Who's side are you on.... God help the USA.

Well, I mean how "diplomatic " was it to send Condo Leeza Rice to lecture the civilised countries of the far east on the need to sanction North Korea?

Mind you I notice she has toned down her previously agressive persona somewhat.
