Any career in the military is worthwhile...keep in mind however if you sign up now you will end up in Iraq...for a long time. A friend of mine is currently serving his second tour in Iraq and already knows that after 15 months he will come stateside for 6 months and then back over for another 12 to 15 months. Have you considered the Navy? Or the Air Force?

My fella is in 16 Air Assault Brigade (UK) and loves it. It is a worthwhile career. Its hard work with long hours and physically demanding, etc...... but thats why you want to join up, right? For the challenge.

Yes, you will get deployed abroad and have to fight. You will risk injury and death. Again, thats not going to be unexpected if you join the Army.

My man is off to Afghanistan soon. He wants to go because that is what he has been training for all this time, and it would be silly if he chickened out or i told him not to go.

Its a good career. You will do your country and yourself proud. Better than a job stuck in an office, working to make some fat bossman even fatter and richer. No pride in that.

The Armys website is excellent. Check out the 16 Air Assault Brigade and see what you reckon.

I am in the Royal Navy and would recommend a career in the Armed Forces. As mentioned before, a guaranteed salary for the foreseeable future is a bonus, as is promotion and the opportunty to see a lot more of life than your mates will.

The RN have the Fleet Air Arm which you could join if you decide that you would like to go to sea and serve on aircraft carriers, frigates and destroyers. On the other hand, if you like aircraft, going home to mummy every night and not be a proper serviceman you could join the RAF.

If you are considering a career then Yes.

A career in the Army = A guarenteed salary every year, Strong oppurtunity for promotion, Guarenteed Home for 22 years or more, a very good pention after 22 years.

yes definately i was in for 7 yrs and would have stayed longer if it wasnt for personal circumstances. its a good life, can be hard work but also a lot of fun to be had. Even if you dont end up with a full 22 yr career a stint in the forces always gets you a good job in civvie street coz of your discipline and organisation. I would strongly recommend something with a better trade though ACC is a bit wishy washy try REME or engineers.

best of luck

Thats up to you. Opinions are going to vary widley on this subject. Some gentlemen/women love the army. My husband, hates it, and cannot wait until his contract is up. Deployment of 15 months, 23 weeks of training, on top of many lies he was told, his medical records "convieniently lost", as well as other things. But, again, not everyone has had this experience. Good luck to you!

yes a stint in the armed forces is one of the best disciplines you could ask for it gives you a sound base to build up a family and rear children should bring it back might go along way to solving some of the misguided youth of today and it should be back with borstals and detention centres were they know they done wrong and is so they don't want to go back throw the cotton wool away

If you can have it on your conscience to go with decisions that are maybe made by a government that lies to you ,go ahead !
To serve your country is one thing but to be used to satisfy some megalomaniacs ego is another .
Good luck !!
