This worm is 13 1/2 inches long. He was found in a dry sandy area of my back yard. He's fatter than a pen. White/ lite pink in color. Looked like he shedded skin. Rings in the body looks like worm, but head has begining patterns of snake skin.

We;re going to make a small, upground sotne pond on our patio soon. It'll be about 6 by 4 feet or so and a foot or two deep. It's going to be in the shade for the most part with a good filter. I'm wondering what kind of fish would thrive best in this environment?

Specifically, flowers they will eat, moss, dirt, a log to hide under, some tall grasses or something for hiding also. Please, any thing that you know would help and please do not suggest that I should not be keeping turtles!!! Also how does a turtle use dirt vs. sand. These are Arkansas box turtles

I have a Silcada tourdous, and we also own a trampoline. I came home to see him pushing the trampolina-all aroung my 2 acres! He is also VERY water aggressive. He has escaped twice. This has all hapened in the summertime. Is it possibly the same time as Mating Season?

Ansers are very important at this point of time as he has been charging people. We are thinking of donating him to the zoo because of his actions. Please help us ASAP!

I've found a turtle, which my dog, as dogs do, chomped on it. There appears to be blood, but no visible wound. The shell is somewhat damaged, and we have put him(?) on our deck in the sunlight.

Any idea as to how to take care of it for recuperation?

We'll take it to the vet later.

I was wondering if there is a safe way to remove/prevent algae in my turtle pond. I know it doesn't seem to bother them at all, but I can't stand the look of the green water. It looks terrible, and I can't see my turtles except when they come to the surface. I enjoy watching them and really miss the clear water! They are currently not in direct sunlight all the time because they have a roof over their pond on a back porch. I have always been afraid to try the algae pond blocks that dissolve in the water that they sell for koi ponds, because I have no idea if they are safe for my turtles, and no store person anywhere has ever been able to tell me if it would be safe or not. Plus my large yellow belly would I am sure go after it and eat it...she would always do this to the little turtle shaped calcium blocks when she was younger. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a lake pretty much in my backyard; therefore my yard is infested with frogs, lizards, and we even saw a snake while cutting the grass!!! My daughter and I are deathly afraid of these things and I want them gone! I understand that there are positive things that they do....but at night and especially when it rains, I am terrified to go out of my own house!!! Is there any kind of repellent that anyone knows of to keep these things out of my yard? Thanks! (And for the record, I don't particularly want to kill them or get close to them! I just want to be able to walk outside without fear!)

ok i have this reallly small painter turtle i found. it's about the size of a quater! anyways, i kept it and i'm keeping it in a nice cage w/ food, fake weeds, and a shell moisterizer alone w/ sand and a rock to sit on. and i keep him out side in the shade (not very dark shade though) just so his cage doesn't get hot. and i clean it after every two days. and i live on a lake so when i go swimming i bring him down there w/ me and let him swim in the water (while im right there so he don't get away)
so i have a few questions and here they are...

- how can you tell if a painter turtle is a male or female?

- how long does it take for painter turtle eggs to hatch after layed?

-i think my turtle has a wonderful enviroment don't u?

I just found a tiny frog outside. I don't live in an area that would have frogs around here. It's too tiny like the size of little marble. I think it may have eaten some ants. Anyways...help! Should I put it back?

First off, I think it's inhumane and potentially dangerous to feed snakes live prey, that's just my opinion and no one is going to change it. That being said, I've found it very difficult to buy adequate sized mice/rats to feed my snakes. It seems the pre-killed frozen mice are either way too small or way too big, so I've been buying live adequate-sized mice and killing them myself. Well, they're starting to eat hopper rats etc, and they're increasingly cute and harder to kill myself. I recently learned about "gassing" rats by putting them in a tupperware container and adding dry ice, but I'm not sure how this works. Would anyone care to explain? Thanks!

I'm getting real sick of people killing snakes aroud here. Innocent garter snakes and gopher snakes who accidently get too close to houses for people to feel safe. I give people information all the time, because after all fear is the reason they are killing them, and the fear that is there is because of lack of information. Could I put my number in the phone book or something as Snake Rescue? I don't have any permits or business license or anything, but I have been studying and working with herps for a while, and have experience working with snakes. I don't want to make any money, I just want to simply save the snakes and other reptiles from being killed, I just want to catch them, then release them out in the sticks.

Thanks guys, you haven't let me down yet!
