cost to place moss. I've got good soil. The space is 6 feet by 3 feet approximately. Any other ideas as to what to place there?

A good moss is Irish moss. It's a groundcover that is vivid green with small white flowers and is readily available at most nurseries(not sure if wal-mart has it)
I think that it's about $2-3 for a 4 inch pot but you can break it up into smaller peices and it will fill in rather quickly.
It's safe if your turtle tries to munch on it. Here's a edible plant list if you want to use anything else.

In all honesty, moss may not be the best plant for you. Moss doesn't have "roots" to attach to the soil and your turtle will probably destroy it walking over/through it. At the very least, you'll probably end up with a good bit of it in the water.

A good ground cover as the other answer suggested (I'd be care to choose something non-toxic, in case your turtle decides to "taste" it), or simply planting grass (which is edible) that you could keep trimmed with scissors/shears might be a better solution.

go to home depot or a nusery and buy a ground cover. it spreads very easy so no need to buy a lot. if it's in an area that will get some good sunlight and water it frequently the moss or ground cover will eventually spread all over the soil. It's pretty cheap....

if it is underwater plants you are talking about, the live plants probably cost between one and five dollars, and if it is fake plants, it probably costs between two and ten dollars.
