I'm not familiar enough with snakes to know which are poisonous and which aren't, but yesterday we stepped outside to find a black snake on our front porch as long as the step itself! It was the biggest snake I've ever seen in the wild. We live in the woods so it should be expected, but I never saw one that big in the four years I've lived there, so I'm a little freaked out. Thankfully my boyfriend was in the Boy Scouts to know these things already, but...

Can you give advice to a total noob about what to do if you come across a snake? If it's outdoors and not bothering me then I'll just let it go, but what if it comes at me? Should I run, hit it with something, scream? That seems like it'd be my natural reaction, anyway! And what if one gets in the house? What should I do?

I've tried researching this stuff but it seems like there is SO much information to process. If anyone is familiar with what to do, please clue me in! :D Thanks so much!

i was spot cleaning my american toad tank. i place the two in a critter keeper, and then continue cleaning the tank. they have a pool and everything they occasionally take a dip. my two are diffrent sizes. my large one is about the length of a pop can. maybe a little less. the other one is aobut 2/3 her size. i was under the impression that they were both females. they both look the same and every thing and i have no idea what the nuptial pad looks like. the smaller on has a darker coloration on the throat and sings every time i pick it up. any way. i put them in the critter keeper together like usual, and clean their tank i go to put them back. and the smaller on had a death grip on the back of the large one. it has been on its back for 3 days straight now, and i cant pull the small one off. i put in a larger water dish in case that they are trying to breed, and she is very very bloated. am i doing every thing alright? any suggestions. i dont want any of them hurt or anything.

Currently, we have one beardie who is 14-15 inches long. We are looking to buy him a brother. Does it matter if the second beardie we introduce is much smaller than the one we already have, or should they be about the same size? Also, once we get the new beardie, should we be aware of anything before putting him in the same cage as our other one?

Yesterday an old friend of mine asked if I would like her tortoise. I have always loved turtles and tortoises so I agreed without hesitation. She droped off the tank and turtle last night but the only advise she gave me was to feed him vegitbles twice a day. I will scour the web looking for information but I thought perhaps someone out there might have the skinny on the best informed websites. Thank you.

I am worried the turtle will try to eat it if I do. Would a snail be better? What is the best way to keep the tank cleaner from the algae?
