Yesterday an old friend of mine asked if I would like her tortoise. I have always loved turtles and tortoises so I agreed without hesitation. She droped off the tank and turtle last night but the only advise she gave me was to feed him vegitbles twice a day. I will scour the web looking for information but I thought perhaps someone out there might have the skinny on the best informed websites. Thank you.

The best general purpose site I know is http://www.tortoisetrust.org

There are better sites for specific breeds, such as
http://www.africantortoises.com (Leopard and Sulcata)
http://www.sulcata-station.org
http://www.tortoise.org
http://www.redfoots.com
etc.

you will soon find out that no two tortoises are alike and that if you join a tortoise group (which you should) you will have to always provide strain name to get the best advice/information. You should find out what type of tort you have quickly so any surprises ..adult size, husbandry requirements..etc can be addressed now not after the animal becomes ill or withdrawn and thus cheating you of a wonderful pet.
