Hi Landgirl,
May I put you right here.
Marlon and Marlene are my two gekkos.
They decided to live with me when living in the Mid-East, and had the run of the place, nipping in and out of an open slatted window, then pop back to eat any bugs in the house.
So I brought them back to the UK under quarantine.
Marlon is presently sitting on the printer, and Marlene is on the bathroom wall, in the sunbeams.
No silly tanks and apparatus required.
I love them, and in reciprocation, They have been known to sleep on top of me in bed.
They still nip out during the day for an unsupervised toddle, but always return to hang out on my bedroom wall.
I don't approve of pet shop lizards being kept as some sort of attraction in a tank.
Marlon, get off the printer. I need to use it.
Whoops ! there he goes up the wall.

Why not?! People who live in places where you can see them everyday in the wild are so lucky, you should realise how privileged you are instead of taking them for granted.
Why shouldn't people in England have access to these wonderful creatures if they are willing to look after them.
There are so many things you can do and provide that make their environments as authentic as possible, you can get supplies of the food they would eat, and you can even get special lighting and food supplements to ensure they stay in perfect health. It is unfair that people from England should have to miss out on these beautiful animals just due to their geographical residence.
In the wild they would be in danger from both natural predators and man.
In captivity they are safe, fed regularly, and most of all loved and cherished - what's inhumane about that?!
Are you against people who keep hamsters and guinea pigs etc too? As there is no difference, these too are wild creatures that roam free in their native countries.
Keeping exotic animals in captivity doesn't harm them if you provide the correct care, in fact there are some lizards that actually live longer in captivity than they do in the wild - how can that be bad.

that a bit unfair!!! why would anyone want to keep pets period???? Most people get pets for company exotic animals can be just as much company as a cat or a dog!!! i have two turtles and they are so happy!!!! they get enough food, water and natural sunlight as the need, better off than being in the wild where they would become somethings dinner!!!!

Raccons are no longer pets they're wild animals as so do no longer make stable pets. that's merciless to cause them to stay un-organic existence as pets. They consistent with possibility appropriate to dogs yet unlike dogs they have been breed over the years to be pets. Wolves are appropriate to dogs yet they don't seem to be risk-free pets.
