I really would like to get one. I have been researching for a little while, but I really don't want to keep insects(especially fast things like crickets) in my house, but if it needs to be done, then that is that. Is it possible to have a Beardie w/out having to feed them insects at all? I see they eat greens and such. I would be a little happier keeping meal worms over crickets, but would still rather not keep either. Also is it possible to be able to freeze the worms/bugs and still feed them to the BD?

Hey, I'm looking into having a tortoise for a pet but I want to be well prepared before I buy one, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice about basic care/setup etc that isn't mentioned in the generic books/websites? It would most likely have to be an indoor set up but as of yet I'm pretty ignorant, so any advice would be much appreciated!!

I'm on a business trip and there is a pond near the office that has a turtle in it. Everytime I stop on the bridge the turtle swims over and then swims back and forth as if he expects to be fed. I feel bad and want to give him something. So will they eat Cheerios ? Are they harmful to him?

Ok, my 6 year old daughter is very much an animal lover. She goes around in the marshes behind our property and sometimes catches garter snakes. She just plays with them, doesn't hurt them and lets them go. I don't think this is something I should worry about, but I'm just curious if there might be something I might not know about.
I think she just watches animal planet too much

I bought a rescue box turtle and he has a little shell rot on him. It isn't spreading. I want to know if there is a home remedy to clear this up. The pet store told me iodine but it seems quite cruel. We do not have a vet near where i live that specializes in reptiles so would be a long trip to a proper vet. If it's not spreading do i even need to worry?

alright so i bought 2 cherry heads for 100 dollars (great deal because they couldnt sell them at petco) anyways i have a 150 gallon tank and what not.

The different is that one of them has a bumpy shell and is really shy and if left alone wont move more than a yard (i think this is the female). The other one has a smoother shell and wont stop moving and when it finaly does stop moving it starts digging (i think this ones the male)

anyways is there a reason why they have different shells is it nutrition? lighting? is there something i should do or let nature take its course.

I release them both in my backyard during the day for about 2 hours and they seem to be happy eating the dandilions and 3 leaf clovers. so yea.

I have two red-ear slider turtles. I have put a turtle dock for them in the tank but they rarely, if ever climb on it. They're in the water just about 100% of the time. Lately they seems to have this weird whitish web looking thing around their heads. Any clue what those are and should I be worried? Thanks.

My red eared sliders seem to always run to a dark spot. Do they like/need natural sunlight?

Like dogs or cats would, i've had my two baby red eared sliders for about 2 months now. Im not sure if they recognize me but they seem to be more comfortable when I take them out of their tank.
