Shell rot in tortoises can be any things, such as fungal, bacterial, stress-induced, or diet-related.

If your habitat is set up so one tort got a fungus or bacteria, the others are vulnerable. If it was stress, the others are subject to the same stress. If diet- they are all eating the same thing.

Since you did not tell us what kind of tortoise, I cannot offer advice on what to look for or to try- but Silverdine Ointment is a sort of generic treatment that does not help us narrow the cause down.

To be on a safe side, bring the tortoise to a vet.

Hello..soft shell is a problem with the tank or their diet, lack of vitamin deficiancy, UV light - plant grow light, so when it effects one it effects all..it's not that it's contagious..it's enviromental ...they need vitamins & UV light which you can try & buy @ pet stores..don't believe there's a cure once they get it & it is usually deadly, best is to ask a pet store or a vet ..not the kind who claim to be vets... in Yahoo Answers as GOOD vets, vet techs ..Pro's would NOT be doing !! Take Care :)

it depends on what the cause is.

causes can be fungal, bacterial or even algae or some other problem or disease.

take it to a vet and get it treated.

Shell rot IS contagious and can also lead to RI (respiratory infections which is a common cause of death in captive turtles). Please visit this site: http://www.happyturtlespub.org/smf/index.php
