I'm on a business trip and there is a pond near the office that has a turtle in it. Everytime I stop on the bridge the turtle swims over and then swims back and forth as if he expects to be fed. I feel bad and want to give him something. So will they eat Cheerios ? Are they harmful to him?

It probably will eat cheerios, and really they are not the worst choice to feed him as they have no added sugar and are mostly grains. Just don't feed him too many.

Another treat you might try would be fresh fruit or dark greens.

Cheerios are a good choice-- The turtle is actually probably pretty used to human food if he was so expectant... I'm sure you won't be the first to feed him and I'm sure if he was starving he would fend for himself... It doesnt make you ignorant if you ask first!

Cheerios are almost junk food for humans, they are REALLY junk food for turtles!

Get yourself a handful of turtle pellets or trout chow for a snack.

Why would you want to feed human food to a wild turtle?
That's just ignorant.
Let the turtle fend for himself!
