There's nothing wrong with your baby RES. Baby RES like the water because it offers them security. However, they also like to bask under a hot light. Sometimes, if the water is warmer than the air, they will stay in the water, but if the basking area is nice and warm, then they'll go up on land and soak up the heat. Basking area should be around 85 degrees and water should be around 78 degrees.

Baby RES's also don't eat a lot of greens when they're young. They prefer meat...things like fish, shrimp, even crabs. Feed him food pellets or a feeder guppy or two. Then as he gets older, he'll start to eat both greens and meat.

1. Pond turtles, like Red-ear Sliders, LIKE water and only leave it to bask in the sun (or under fake sunlight). Babies especially like water- it offers them security.

2. Young pond turtles do not EVER eat lettuce or greens. In the wild, they eat worms, bugs, small shrimp, etc. We can feed them about 1/2 good turtle pellets, and the rest live or frozen/thawed fish foods like shrimp, krill, bloodworms, etc.
