look becuase im getting coufused i can't explain it but read the habbit part because it says spends time in basking area the will quickly jumo in the water so IS IT A WATER OR LAND TURTLE?

I recently found a painted turtle in my pool in my backyard. We called a guy that we know personally from the Humane Society and he said that we should probably let it go but it will most likely die. so we decided to keep him and he said thats alright too. So, he's about the size of a quarter and he is ah-dorable....i assume he is a baby and the guy said that he probably was laid by his mother and traveled to the wrong spot because we have a pond at the bottom of our neighborhood in a culdisac. so anyways, we have had him for 3 days now and we got him a mini tank (traveling tank) for the time being. we bought him some turtle pellets but he hasnt eaten as far as we know. he hasnt eaten the lettuce we put out either. so all i need is a list of what to get him and a quick description. long answers are appreciated just as much though. especially...do i need a heat lamp or a water heater for him and how can i keep him warm until i get either of the two??

I live in north-west Kansas and I caught a garter snake the other day and I have him in a temporary home until I get a tank. He's less than a foot long, and he seems to like sitting in his water dish. (Maybe he's a ribbon snake, I'm not sure...) I wanna feed him soon so I can set up a feeding schedual(sp?). So I have to ask, what is a good size tank, should I get a heat lamp/rock, what humidity should keep it, can I use durt as terrain, and what do I feed him?

I know the right thing to do would be to set it free somewhere else but to be honest and since I am not Steve Irwin, the first thing that came up to my mind was killing it, you know, I don't really get along very well with those animals and I'm afraid to get bitten.

At the end, some1 else took the snake but I'm not really sure what he did with it, in the future I hope I can take care of the situation by myself.

New Cage. Water turns cloudy within a few hours and then within a day it is turning green. The old cage did not have this problem. Please help. We are using chlor out to treat the water after each cleaning.
