If the Ball Python you are talking about is the same diameter as my wrist .. then it would be eating medium to large rats.

As a general rule on Ball Pythons, feed them items that are about the same diameter as their stomach area. Smaller items may be given as food but Ball Pythons don't have the ability to eat gigantic meals like the Reticulated, Burmese or African Rock Pythons.

I've always heard that ball pythons can eat a mouse up to five times the size of the snake's head. If the snake's head is as big as a wrist, though, maybe he/she should be eating rats instead.

Well Ball Pythons generally don't get that big. I own 3 and my male is 7 years old and my female is 5 years old and little momma is only a few months. And my Chance is as big as he will get. Not even close to size of a wrist.
Have a nice day

get ones about the size of a lab rat, the white ones usually seen on tv, but he can eat anything, i've seen a rock python swallow 2 chickens and a rabbit, he wasn't too big, their jaws really open up, it'll be good to give him somethin bigger than himself, you'll just see a huge lump where the rat is

you should feed him a adult mouse or a fuzzy to small rat. i breed them and i have one that is that size and he gets a small rat every week. but it depends on what he prefers to eat if he wants the mouse or a very small rat. but he can be fed either one.
