i've had 2 for about 6 months, his female companion died a few weeks ago after a large water change. ( boyfriend added chlorinated water, tank needed to be re-cycled, we had that nasty green water) everything is fine now, testing reveals normal levels. he just wont eat, and has gotten really skinny and his eyes are sinking in. the tips of his fins are turning brown.its been over a week since he ate last, and hes kinda just resting on top of one of the plants moving his mouth. he only swims (kinda lamely at that) when i open the top of the tank to look at him. when i walk away he heads back to the same spot. the only other fish in the 10 gallon tank at the moment are 2 small (healthy, happy) algae eaters. please help, im sad for him! ( i know i posted this earlier but noone really replied)

I have a 50gallon/200L tank and i am trying to figure out what to put in it. I originally wanted to get Cichlids or Dwarf Cichlids but i dont think i can get them in Australia. If anyone knows where i can get them in QLD Australia please let me know! Anyway i have decided that i will make it a community tank since i cant get Cichlids. The Fish i want to put in the community tank are:

* Cardinal Tetras
* Platys
* Fancy Guppies
* Dwarf Gouramis
* Dalmatian Mollies
* Leopard Corydoras
* Lyretail Mollies
*Angelfish

So exactly how many of each can i get? Is there any that you think i should exclude? Any that dont get along? And any suggestions of other fish i can get?

Thankyou all so much

Hi

I recently purchased a small shark from my local pet shop. The guy that sold me the fish said that it was a dolphin shark. The shark is very dark on top with a silver underside and is growing at a phenominal rate.it has a large fin and a very wide head / mouth. I cannot find this fish anywhere on-line to get information on it. Can anyone identify this shark and let me know what species it is. Thanks in advance

Hi! I was just wondering if anyone here has a green sunfish. I have 2 one that lives in a aquarium inside and the other outside a pond. I have a lot of experience with all kinds of freshwater fish and some saltwater; banned shark, grouper, clown etc, but i've never owned a freshwater green sunfish. I found them at walmart mixed in with some comets, no one knew what they were at walmart but I did some research when I got home and found out its a "green sunfish". So anyhow I was wondering if anyone else had one and some of there behaviors are etc. So far I have found that it was very shy at first, then mildy agressive and now is aggressive and will eat anything is can fit in its mouth. When I put them into my aquarium within minutes they started locking jaws like a Cichlid does and I had to quickly take one out . I've had the one in my tank for about a month & a half and its growing fast. It also will not anything but frozen foods its very picky! Replies are appreciated thanks!

i clean my aquarium regularly ,water changes weekly filter change every three weeks (more then what they even say to change them) but i still have issues with algae growing on everything and its getting worse and worse. i do not have to much light either, the tank gets about 8 hours of light per day, the light is on a timer. it is a fixture with two t5 light bulbs. seems worse since i got them but it was a problem even with the standard tube lights i had originally.

WHAT CAN I DO TO REDUCE ALGAE!

She/he stays near the bottom of the bottle, near the rocks, and it looks a bit like it is cut. I come into my room ever hour or two and start crying because I think they are dead, then I shake the bottle just a slight bit and put stuffed animals up next to the bottle (those are things that make them respond) and they respond a bit. I noticed they aren't swimming high. For the past few hours they have been in my room with the light off and door closed. Are they dead, stressed out, dying, or just plain sleepy/not used to the place they are in? I got them today. I believe it's female. It hasn't been named yet, but I am thinking about the name Snowy. That's my information.
Any responses?

The guppy is silver in the front; small; and dark gray in the back. The tail is beautiful but kind of short, and they have a reddish-thing on their gills (maybe its gills?).
Please?
And if it IS a girl, what do I name her?

Ok, so I want to start a 100% live planted tank, but I am a little confused as to where to start. Here is my plan and let me know what you think (those of you that have planted aquariums). I also have a few questions.

Ok, I am setting up my 30 gallon aquarium. I have a powerfilter, an undergravel filter with a power head that will run on one side only, Two 15W flourescent bulbs, small-pebbled sized gravel, some driftwood, and the other usual items. I want to possibly buy some Laterite to put below my gravel. I want to make a homemade CO2 injector with a 2 liter pop bottle, connected to an airstone that goes directly into my power filter intake. And that is that... Let me know what will work, what won't and what suggestions you have or any personal experiences you have.

I would also like to know:

1) Does Laterite need to be replaced periodically?

2) How essential are trace nutrients for plants? If so, what nutrients do I need? (the amount available is staggering)

3) How essential is a method of measuring my CO2? Can I just sort of wing it with my home made system without worrying about having too much CO2?

4) I have heard that the undergravel is not the greatest choice for plants... should I just remove the power head and keep the grates, remove the whole undergravel system, or does it even matter?

Thanks so much in advance, I look forward to hearing some great info!!

I recently got a 2-gallon fish aquarium. I now have one platy and two guppies in it.

1. I got the food that the cashier recommended. I've always thought that you were supposed to feed them once a day (which is what I've been doing for years!), but the directions on the package said to feed them a few times a day!

This is a new brand of food that I'm using, would the feeding directions be different from another brand? How many times should I feed them then?

2. The two guppies seem to be picking on the platy. They're always following it around and pecking at it. The platy seems to always be trying to get away from them! If I got another platy, would that help them to stay away from it?

I have a 38 gallon, freshwater, tank. I've had this particular set-up for about 2 months, and the water seems stable. I perform weekly water changes, and my fish seemed healthy. I had :
1 upside-down catfish
1 Green Cory catfish
1 Oriental algae eater
1 Male betta
1 female betta
1 Pleco
2 otocinculus

However, my problem started within the past few days. I had previously fed my fish algae wafers and a rather generic betta food. I bought some bloodworms to supplement them. Within less than 48 hours, my pleco, bettas, upside-down catfish, and one otocinculus began losing their color, and their entire face to their gills were completely white. Only 6 hours after that, and they began having what looked like a white moss grow on them. None of the fish would swim, and my betta, Zander, wouldn't leave the top of the tank or really even move at all. He seemed to barely be alive. Only 4 hours later, all of the fish that lost their color died. What happened?

I have noticed a couple of my goldfish terds being almost clear jelly looking. Is this a sign for disease? Parasite? or just different colored poo. If it is a sign of something, then what?
