i've had 2 for about 6 months, his female companion died a few weeks ago after a large water change. ( boyfriend added chlorinated water, tank needed to be re-cycled, we had that nasty green water) everything is fine now, testing reveals normal levels. he just wont eat, and has gotten really skinny and his eyes are sinking in. the tips of his fins are turning brown.its been over a week since he ate last, and hes kinda just resting on top of one of the plants moving his mouth. he only swims (kinda lamely at that) when i open the top of the tank to look at him. when i walk away he heads back to the same spot. the only other fish in the 10 gallon tank at the moment are 2 small (healthy, happy) algae eaters. please help, im sad for him! ( i know i posted this earlier but noone really replied)

most gourami like to be part of a pair. he is probaly lonely. i had a pair of darwf gourami and when one died. dew to some other fish picking on it, the other simply gave up on living. even though you have other fish in the tank they want at least one more of there own kind.

By normal levels what do you mean? Ammonia should be zero, nitrite should be zero, and nitrates should be less than 20 ppm. Any ammonia or nitrite will have harmful effects on your fish. If those two elements are above zero then you need to get them down to zero. You can do this by doing 50% water changes(dechlorinate the water!). You may also buy products that will detoxify the ammonia and nitrites. Is your fish breathing rapidly. If so, then your problem is what i mentioned. Also he might not have enough oxygen. You can lower the temp(no more than 2 degrees per day) to get more oxygen in the water. You can buy air bubblers, which some say they don't give off any oxygen, but they actually do! You can also lower the water level to have the filter water hit the surface of the tank water to create more surface aggitation, and that will create more oxygen. Please check your ammonia nitrite and nitrates!
