The guppy is silver in the front; small; and dark gray in the back. The tail is beautiful but kind of short, and they have a reddish-thing on their gills (maybe its gills?).
Please?
And if it IS a girl, what do I name her?

A female guppy is generally larger than the males. Their tales have no colours on them they are more generic natural colours. Male guppies are smaller but their tales are much larger than the females. Their tales also have bright colours and sometimes have small designs on them.

From what you described it to look like i'm thinking it's probably a male but I guess you can probably have a better idea than me. Its also depends on how old it is because if it is only small there no real way to tell, once it gets bigger its pretty easy to tell.
As for a name not really sure... you could name it after cartoon fish eg, "Dory" (finding nemo) or "Flounder" (the little mermaid) but it's entirely up to you :)

Have fun!

2 guaranteed ways to tell:

does the fish have a dark black spot in her belly? that is a gravid spot and means it's a female

does the fish have color on the body or just the back fin and dorsal fin?

Male fish have a colorful body, females do not. Female colors are only on the fins...

Also... the male has a long fin underneath the anal vent, it will be long and straight, as opposed to a female, that has a rounded fin underneath her vent.

I think its a girl, but I'm not to sure.
1 way to find out if it is a girl is to put a male guppy in (but, I wouldnt do that because it "could" be a male, and they would just fight)
but, It sounds like a female to me, but I could be wrong. But if it has a really short tail then its probably a female.

ps-if you go and buy another later in life, ask the employ.
And if it is a girl name it like um..."River" or something, idk!

this isn't enough info to answer. try looking at pictures on the web. or go to a pet store and ask somebody to show you the difference.
