I always have plecos in my tank as I think they are great algae eaters. I usually use one of two products when my fish get ick, either Ick Guard or Quick Cure. Could either of these products kill my plecoses because they are scaleless? Any recommendations for ick medications?

Our turtle tank only maintains clear water for about two days and then soon afterwards becomes very green. We have to change the water so often. Can someone recommend a better way of controlling the rapidly growing algae? Thanks! :)

Does anyone have any experience with these two types of fish together (koi and weather loaches)? I have a 150 gal. tank to fill and definitely want koi; would like weather loaches as well. The tank is long and shallow -- about five feet long. I'm also looking for advice on how many of each I should consider. I'd like 3 koi and 2 or 3 loaches, but I'm afraid that might end up being over crowded since koi can get big and I don't have a pond I'm willing to transfer them too. Will definitely have a good filter system (bio wheel, 160 gal. capacity -- actually 2 80 gal. capacity filters since that's what I could find in the brand I decided I like. And lots of live plants - yes, loaches are diggers, but I'd rather have up-turned plants than plastic -- sandy bottom... really can't wait to get it set up. Plants first, then fish.)

Thanks!

so i got my betta a few days ago. hes in a 10 gallon tank filled up half way. when i got him, his head, especially near his gills, is white. i thought it couldve been ich so i went to the petstore and got some aquarium salt. the instructions says put one tablespoon per 5 gallon, and i put half tablespoon because i didnt know how the fish was gonna react. i dissolved it first and put it in slowly. this morning i noticed that the edges of his fins are white and the the tip of the bottom fin is clearish. his fins werent exactly great when i bought him. and there is this lump that is near his gills that i havent noticed before. what is wrong with him and what should i do? should i change the water? and the temperature is like 74 btw

I have a 4month old 20gal tank with mollies/platies and recently added 1 small otocat. There was lots of algae at first but i imagine it cannot last forever. But I can't seem to get him to eat the algae tablets. They sink and he swims away...then the mollies just attack it! How can i get food to the oto without the mollies devouring it themselves? Or is there a way to encourage the algae growth a bit? It is a moderalty planted tank and the mollies love the algea too.

So I went to Petco today and they wouldn't sale me 10 fish in a 10 gallon tank. The employee said that he did not feel like seeing the fish die in such a small tank and said that he will not sale it to me... Are they allowed to do this?

I hear people say that it is illegal to flush your fish down the toilet because of the chance that it might actually stay alive and harm the local eco-system... same thing with snails?

Also, at Petco, I see signs that say please do not release your fish to a pond or lake...

The reason to this is? what kind of harm can it do?

I wanna release some fish in a little pond near my house for fun :)

Hey guys,

I am about to get a 50 gallon aquarium for my 14 th birthday.

I would like to get Dwarf Cichlids.

So my questions are:

Can I put Dwarf Cichlids in a tank of that size?

If so how many?

Which types get along with each other the best?

Can they be kept with other fish?

If so what types?

What types of fish cant they be kept with?

I would also like to get a sucker fish/algae eater for the tank, so can Dwarf Cichlids be kept with them?

What type of sucker fish should i get that is suitable for a 50 gallon tank?

Are Dwarf Cichlids available in Australia?

And in case anyone is wondering this is not my first tank. I have two other aquariums so i have some experience, and i know how to cycle the tank and everything.

Thanks everyone =]

My betta, has been healthy for a month, then he started acting funny. He still eats immediantly after I put the food in, but after hes done he just sits on the gravel almost looking as if he was ready to kick the bucket. Not only that but I've noticed sugary like white spots only on his side fins. is it early signs of ich? or Velvet? whats the cure?

Hello new here, I have an ablino ocsar thats been sick for two weeks. I need some advice about what his conditions are, and how i can treat them. My oscar has a white cottony growth that is forming on his dorsal fin and head, it just started growing there yesterday. His back fins shake sometimes, I don't think its the water temp. because i keep it fairly warm the heat is on in the house now so i try not to have the water temperture too high because i dont want algae to grow. He hasen't eaten in about a week and a half. I tried to put food around him like pellets but he just ignores them. He lays on the bottom of the tank most of the time and sometimes he swims around in a complete circle half way around the tank then lays back down on the bottom and starts breathing fast. I have used primafix and it looks like its working cause hes swimming around more than he used to but im not sure if the medicine is right for him or not. So if anyone has any helpful suggestions please help. Thanks!

My convict pair gave birth to about 250-300 fry. After they hatched, both mom and dad fish were really protective of the young. There is only one other fish in my 40 gallon, an electric yellow about 1/2 inch long. After about two weeks when the fry can swim their own, i noticed they started to disappear. by the 5th day, none are left... do they eat their young? How can they be so protective one week and eat up their fry the next week? Seems like they're mating again because they're chasing each other. Is it morally wrong to let this pair mate only to have them eventually consume the offspring?

i think that the platy they gave me is a coldwater swordtail. due to the fact that it is twice the size of my other platies and it doesnt have the same markings. not like i really care that its a swordtail but i have it in a breeding net because it is pregnant and i thought it was going to have babies soon.

i know a little about platies but i need to know what is the difference between platies and swordtails,

IN Regards to breeding, feeding and babies.
thanks!
