Cause I like the idea of tieing java moss to a piece of cork. And I know styrofoam floats! I tried to let java moss float around freely in the tank, but after a few hours it sticks to the intake valve of filter!! Any suggestions truly appreciated!

I find many betta bowls inhumane, but this to me seems ok. It will be in my 100 gallon aquarium. The water will be circulated and filtered. This sits inside the aquarium and holds 4 bettas. If many of you see it as inhumane I will not buy it.

I currently own a betta in a 5 gal. tank and I'm planning to purchase a 10 gal next month (including heater, filter, substrate . . . the works).

I basically know next to nothing about any fish species other than bettas. I've been researching appropriate fish for a 10 gal. tank but the information I read seems contradictory.

I have three general questions:
1) Can I keep cichlids in a 10 gal tank?
2) If I keep schooling fish (danios, rasboras, tetras, etc.) how many would be suitable for a 10 gal tank? If I do decide on schooling fish, can/should I keep other fish with them, such as cory cats?
3) My betta gets bored incredibly easily (a tail-biter). . . can/should I attempt to incorporate him into my new 10 gal with other schooling fish?

Thank you for the advice!

The fish has only been in our home for three days and i have heard that our tap water is really bad but only from one neighbor so i admittedly dont really know, but just in case i put the water in the bowl he was in through a water filter. (One of those water pitcher kind by Pur.) Now that i have a 10 gallon being set up for him I am faced with the idea of filtering (slowly) ten gallons. Do i need to stick with the filtered now or is it ok to use regular tap water? I will be using anti stress water conditioner so the chlorine will be taken care of. Please help.

I just got a betta for my 39 gallon community tank today, along with some dwarf platies. The platies seem fine and are minding their own business but my betta doesn't seem to be doing as well. he's swimming really fast, and when he's not swimming he's laying on the bottom of the tank. Any suggestions on what to do and how to make him happy? thanks!

I just got a ten gallon tank and am really eager to get my poor fish into a bigger environment but I dont want to rush and wind up hurting him. What I would like to know is what exactly I need to do before transferring him to the new tank. It was a tank kit and the only special equipment i have is a thermometer and a ph testing kit. Since he is in such a small bowl i feel like its really important to transfer him soon. He has been in the bowl for three days. So just what do i need to do to ensure that the tank will be safe for him and what equipment do i need to do that? Thanks so much for your help.

Oh and by the way, the goldfish is a small ryukin.

I have a 10 gallon fresh water fish tank with 5 fish. I keep buying crabs, but they keep dying. What am I doing wrong? Do they need saltwater? Am i giving them the wrong food? Also how many fish can I put it a 10-gallon tank? I have heard many different answers. Some people tell me 9, some 10, and some only 5 or 6. What is the answer for happy, healthy fish??

He's be constipated for some days and on the side where his scales are lifted he got a white cottony infection.
I cleaned him with a salt solution and the white stuff came off, but know he has a sore on his mouth that looks like a bruise.
How do I treat him without affecting his constipation?
Can i treat both at the same time?

I have two betta and I keep them as pets and do not train them to fight. I slept over at a friends house and when I came home I was in shock- the tank divider was floating on the top! Both of my fish were fighting, so I split them up and put tape on the divider to make it stay. There are parts of there fins all over the fish tank. How can I get them to heal? Are they going to be OK? PLEASE HELP!

Ok i just picked up all the live rock i need...here is my tank setup

55 gallon
30lbs agronite sand
20lbs live sand
1lbs live sand from an established tank
60lbs (or more) of FULLY CURED liverock/that i bought from a established tank ($7/lb)

Fluval 305 filter (new filter media)(no access to used media)
Coral life Super Skimmer (65gallon)
Coral life Actinic light 260watts/10k

now thats out of the way, i was told by someone to do a FISHLESS cycle, and to add pure amonia (about 3-4ml a day) for 5 days....its day 3...i have gotten the PPM up to 1.5 or so....

nitrites and nitrates still read 0, pH is 8.2, salinity is 1.022

CONSIDERING i have 1lb of livesand from an established tank AND 60lbs or CURED live rock, should i even have to cycle the tank? or should it not already by cycled? kind like a clone tank...

i was assuming i should stop adding ammonia and check the nitrites every day until they spike? or will that not happen since i have so much from an old tank?

Well I looked in the tank and he was on his side kind of, then I got closer and he moved, and hes swimming at an odd angle. I cleaned the tank, fed him, but is there anything I can do or is he basically kaput and done for? i hope not, I know it sounds stupid, but I would be kinda sad if he died :(.

the very end of his tail looks brown and a bit ragged. Nothing big yet. The rest of his fins look completely fine.

I have diagnosed my betta as having Swim bladder disorder, and i'm currently trying to treat that. However in the beginning he stayed at the very bottom of his tank for a day. I was thinking that maybe during that time, he scraped his fin on the gravel, and that caused the fin rot.

is it fin rot? i thought it had to be a whitish edge.
