No she`s guarding her brood which have recently hatched.
Convicts are maybe the easiest of cichlids to breed so ideal to learn to breed fish with. They are beatiful fish when in breeding colours and easy fish to keep. The only drawback is that no-one seems to want the progeny when they are ready to leave home.

What you are observing is the typical breeding behavior of convicts, Once spawned the parents will take turns in guarding the eggs, and just after hatching they will move the newly hatched to another previously dug hole. They will continue moving them from one hole to another until the fry are free swimming.
Once free swimming the fry should be fed with BBS and other suitably sized food, sometimes the parents will chew on large sized food and spit the back out for the young to feed on.

I agree that if somebody would not comprehend the fish or that they are interior the fish section, their nostril could wander someplace else. i think of at that length you're speaking approximately, they're nevertheless too youthful for breeding. you're beneficial you have a male and lady confident? I agree it would in all probability be ultimate in some thing like a 40 or 50 yet you may merely besides breed them in a 20 if it somewhat is all you ought to use. no longer asserting it somewhat is cautioned inspite of the incontrovertible fact that it somewhat is completed. i'm uncertain why you will desire to reproduce those fish although. they have super quantities of fry, and promoting them off is going to be complicated to impossible as every person with a tank like a 20 and a male and lady can exceedingly plenty breed those fish. the element being is that it somewhat is a approaches too hassle-free to reproduce and yield such extreme quantities, the value of those fish are as close to to 0 as you will get. inspite of the incontrovertible fact that, for regardless of your motives are, you need to do this in a 20 yet preferrably in a 40 or 50.

Convicts breed like rats ;-)
They may have hatched.. she doesnt move the eggs once there laid. Mom and dad will BOTH guard the babys and keep them under control. Theres no need to serperate them to a new tank... you will loose some...just natures way. But you will have 20 + babys when its all said and done... then they(mom and dad) will start all over again in a few weeks. Enjoy.. there fun to watch.

As 5speed said, now that you have wigglers, you will now have to find something to do with them. Nobody wants them because they are so easy to breed. Convicts are dirt cheap because anybody can breed them. You can either raise them, feed them to other fish, give them away, or find some other way to kill them. DO NOT put them into any local lakes or rivers, it is illegal and they will become an infestation in the water killing off native species.

Neither, they have hatched into wigglers. The wigglers will be free swimming in about 3 days or so. It's really cool the first time you see it. Get ready for a crap load of fish!
