the very end of his tail looks brown and a bit ragged. Nothing big yet. The rest of his fins look completely fine.

I have diagnosed my betta as having Swim bladder disorder, and i'm currently trying to treat that. However in the beginning he stayed at the very bottom of his tank for a day. I was thinking that maybe during that time, he scraped his fin on the gravel, and that caused the fin rot.

is it fin rot? i thought it had to be a whitish edge.

It could be a wound,
that can be treated with aquarium salt.

Give it a day or two, and if the ragged spot
does not turn white, put in some aquarium salt
and see where it goes from there.

Good luck!
