I bought a 10 gallon fish tank set for my goldfish (only 1 1/2 inches atm so i have time to upgrade), it has a filter thermometer and gravel and lots of plants. I have water conditioner and thats about it. He was a rescue fish so i found myself in a hurried situation. I am hoping to transfer him from the bowl he has spent the last few days in to the new tank and DO NOT have time to cycle it for weeks or really even days. I also dont have the money for bacteria or any of that sort of thing. For now I just need to do everything i can for him with just the basics. Furthurmore our Ph levels where in my part of the state are almost always around like 8.6 so even if i test the ph its gonna peg the scale. Really what i need to know is what do i need to do for now to ensure that he will survive in the tank and what do i need to do to maintain the tank to keep him alive. I realize that it may require much more frequent water changes. Is there any advice anyone can give? Again i am now flatbroke

I have a 4" Pleco that lives in a 10 gallon tank with 4 small female guppies. He has an eye infection with a white film covering one eye and starting on the other. Also, I have had him for over a year and have never seen him eat and when I drop algae discs in the water they just end up sitting there until they dissolve. How do I a. Stop the infection he has now, and B. Prevent further ones, and C. I was thinking about getting some more fish, would this be over kill?

I just got a 1 gallon fish tank. Originally it was for bugs that we caught to observe, but it is turned into a fish tank (well-scrubbed of course). What can I put in it? It has a hood, light and a filter. I can't fit a bigger tank. (Not enough room on the counter)

We got a new ten gallon tank for our goldfish who we have had four days in a gallon bowl. I am in a hurry to transfer him and the manual said let the system run for two hours, we decided to let it run for 24 hours. I know its best to let a new system run for weeks but he was a rescue fish the bottom line is the longer we run the new tank before transferring him the longer he is left poisoning the bowl water. You see why i am in a hurry to get him into better surroundings. So this morning i noticed on a piece of paper "never run the filter without water in it". Just in case i decided to check and he hadnt filled it. So now I dont know what to do. Do i have to start over and wait another 24 hours for it to run through or only like 8 since the manual only recommended 2 hours. Also they say never do it but not what happens if you do. I dont even know if the filter will still function properly. It is running water through it now and still pulls water through. What should i do.

I am hoping to get some gravel from a pet store tank to add to my new tank for beneficial bacteria. The nearest pet store is walmart and i am sure i could ask them for some but i am in question as to whether a tank at walmart could even be considered well established. So many fish from walmart die, i am also concerned about bringing home contaminated gravel and introducing disease to the tank. If it makes a difference the fish is from the same walmart so it has probably been exposed to the same stuff that they have. We got the fish four days ago. I know everyone says just cycle it for like a week but he is in a one gallon bowl and i am really eager to get him more space. Keeping him in something so small has me worried. So can i add walmart gravel or is there a better way?

I've been reading how you need to feed your fish this if they are floating...my beta is floating in the tank but he's still moving around. He's also kind of fat...and he's only fed once or twice a day.

I have an empty 80g I'm thinking of converting to salt water. I know what I need in terms of sand, rocks, and lighting (I have a 4x65watt PC light for it), but I wouldn't know where to start for filtration. I dont want to drill it... someone once suggested a canister filter+powerhead+protein skimmer, but wanted to get advice from more than 1 hobbyist before I get anything going.

Please only answer if you are an expereinced keeper.

ok... i currently have two fish tanks. I have a 10 gallon, and a 55 gallon. In the ten i have several feeder guppies and a young red eared slider. He is growing fast so i hope to be buying him a 20 gallon soon.

In my 55 gallon I have eight small goldfish. Five fancy goldfish (the biggest reaching 3 in. and the smallest 1 1/2 in.), and three comet goldfish (2 1/2 to 3 inches). I know that comet goldfish can grow to enormous sized so i plan on either giving them back to the pet store, giving them to the nearest pond owner, or (least likely) feeding them to my turtle.

I am getting a new tank from a friend of my dads. It is 40 gallons, and has a freshwater puffer (not sure what kind), and two chiclids. He has owned the tank and fish for 6 years.

Is it a good idea to move fancy goldfish into the 40 gallon and the chiclids into the 55?

Will 5 fancy goldfish fit in the 40 & will 40 to 55 make much of a difference for the chiclids?

I have a small tank with one white molly and one black molly. My room is decorated in black and white and I wanted to decorate my fishtank in those colors too. I can't find any black fake plants to put in it. Would it hurt my fish to put a plant looking thing made out of ostrich feathers?

I just saw a freshawater stingray at a pet store yesterday and was wondering if anyone had one. Are they difficult to keep? Susceptible to diseases because they are scaleless? etc etc

I've been keeping fish for about 5 months so i know all the basics and stuff. Would it work in a semi-aggressive tank?

I have a 29 gallon tank that I would like to put bettas in. I understand I can only put females together. How many is ideal for a 29 gallon? I wasn't planning on putting any other fish, or maybe just something small like neons (if thats even acceptable?). Any contribution will help. (Sorry to be so clueless! Last time I had a betta I was 11 and it sat on my dresser in a Little Mermaid aquarium)

I just bought a small 1.7gallon aquarium for my daughter. I've set it up already and will be adding the goldfish in about 24 hours. My concern is that the air filter in the aquarium is creating loads of little bubbles, right in the middle of the aquarium. Will this bother, scare, or stress the fish? Or is it normal to have so many air bubbles?

Okay, two out of three of my goldfish I discovered had fin rot. They actaullay had it when I got them, but it was too early to tell. So, I've been treating them with Maracy-Two. The one fish, Maria, has had her fin rot go away completely. However, my other fish, Jose, seems to be getting worse. Half of his dorsal fin is black, and the black is also on the side of his back. It was not this bad even before I started the treatment!!! What should I do? Please help!!

I have 2 male gouramis in a 10 gallon aquarium and one of them attacks the other one on occasion. The one that's being attacked has his tail badly damaged to the point where he has splits in it. I was just wondering will it grow back if the other one doesn't continue to nip at it? Will the damaged gourami be susceptible to diseases? Should I break them up and put them in their own aquariums (hopefully not)? Please let me know what I can do.

They have brackish water, a place to climb out of, etc, etc. They share a tank with various other fish. The female was hanging out sideways both in and out of the air and water for about 2 days, now she's hiding in some plants. My male has been hanging out sideways too, under the water, and I thought he was dead twice, I checked him out and he moved. Now he keeps "laying" down, but isn't dead? help what is going on?????

I'm pretty sure my fish have columnaris. How they got it, I just don't know. Anyway, I have some maracyn-two. Can I use that or should I get something else to treat this? Also, what can I expect for results and how do I prevent this from happening agian. I do regular water changes (50% AT LEAST once a week) and add aquarium salt to the tank.

10 gallon tank
1 - better
2 - neons
1- very small pepper cory (he looks the worst!)
