I have a 29 gallon tank that I would like to put bettas in. I understand I can only put females together. How many is ideal for a 29 gallon? I wasn't planning on putting any other fish, or maybe just something small like neons (if thats even acceptable?). Any contribution will help. (Sorry to be so clueless! Last time I had a betta I was 11 and it sat on my dresser in a Little Mermaid aquarium)

I have five female bettas in a 10 gallon. Make sure their dispositions are OK with this. You always want at least five or six together or they are less likely to get along. Mine have never fought, but I have had females in the past who have. You can pretty much tell their personalities when you purchase them, by putting them next to each other in the stores and seeing if they care about fighting or are just chill. But they also need their space. I would not put more than 14 in that tank -- and only if they are the ONLY species in there. But they can be quite beautiful. I have never tried this many in such a big tank, so I would make sure htey have enough hiding spaces and that they get along well. Good luck and enjoy adopting these babies. They will LOVE all that room to swim since most people abuse them!
PS, three female bettas in a 30 gallon is totally unnecessary. I generally am among the first to speak up for fishies who dont get their space, but that is really not that many fish for that big of a tank, and given how they grow to an adult size that is no more than 2 inches on average excluding tail. Also, they wont get along as well unless you have a few more. I dont see any reason not to have more than that as long as they get along and have their own "spaces" to hide and sleep -- they all will still technically get a 29 gallon to swim around in. And most people put these poor things in bowls or 1 gallons, I think even my 10 gallon makes mine pretty happy, it is in comparison to my goldfish in their 50 gallon.

you can put about 15-20 female betta together in a 29... I personally would leave it the "ladies" tank instead of adding anything else. Why not do live plants??

Minimum ratio is 8 liters per fish, so roughly 1 per two gallons, so about 15. Some people say that the best thing for the health of the fish is around 35 liters (~10gal) per beta. I'd reccommend 3-5.

Easily 2 dozen, maybe a few more if you have excellent filtration and are really, really good about your water changes. Adding plenty of hiding places will also be a good idea. They won't fight like males, but they do pick at each other some and several places for some of them to escape and rest is very helpful.

Hi, All Bettas fight even in just female tanks:
Male and Female = Fight
Female and Female = Fight
Male and Male = Fight
Now to have females in the same tank they HAVE to be from the SAME betta litter. Thus they wont fight thats the only way stores that sell them can have them in the same tanks. :] good luck
