ok... i currently have two fish tanks. I have a 10 gallon, and a 55 gallon. In the ten i have several feeder guppies and a young red eared slider. He is growing fast so i hope to be buying him a 20 gallon soon.

In my 55 gallon I have eight small goldfish. Five fancy goldfish (the biggest reaching 3 in. and the smallest 1 1/2 in.), and three comet goldfish (2 1/2 to 3 inches). I know that comet goldfish can grow to enormous sized so i plan on either giving them back to the pet store, giving them to the nearest pond owner, or (least likely) feeding them to my turtle.

I am getting a new tank from a friend of my dads. It is 40 gallons, and has a freshwater puffer (not sure what kind), and two chiclids. He has owned the tank and fish for 6 years.

Is it a good idea to move fancy goldfish into the 40 gallon and the chiclids into the 55?

Will 5 fancy goldfish fit in the 40 & will 40 to 55 make much of a difference for the chiclids?

Cichlids range from an inch long to two feet long, can you be any more specific about them? Chances are you'd be best off keeping the goldfish to the 55, since the cichlids are obviously doing fine in the 40 if he's had them for 6 years, and the goldfish will appreciate the extra water volume, considering hteir messy nature, and how much more they have to grow.

You first need to know what kind of Cichlids and Puffers are in the 40 gallon tank. Until then, keep the Goldfish in the 55 gallon and the Cichlid/Puffer combo in the 40 gallon. Email me about what kind of Cichlids and Puffer you received.

not only that Ghapy, but the cichlids would do better in the forty because of the added footprint space, the gold fish are almost always swimming but the cichlids set up territroies along the bottom and the added space will do more for lessening agression.
