I've been feeding my 3 betta fish 2 pellets of Sanyu Betta Gold every other day and I've had them for maybe 3 months now. At first, 2 of them used to eat the food really quickly, and the other would take it's time, but now all 3 eat their food as soon as it's in the water. Are they eating so fast because it's not enough? I've been thinking of increasing their intake...

i have a single male betta and whenever i glance over to his tank, his face is all puffy. its as if to make himself look bigger. i think this may be a sign of aggression, but i only have one betta. so why is he acting like he is getting ready to fight? does this mean something else?

Just wondering if the pattern of a spike in ammonia then in nitrite and finally to nitrate happens in a bowl as well as a tank or is there something different about a tank that makes it more dangerous than a bowl?

I have bought 6 gold fish and have killed them all within 24 hours of having them. I dont understand what I am doing wrong. I let the water set for a day before putting them into the bowl and fed them. Do you have to put something else in there just to keep the goldfish alive? I thought that you could just put them in the bowl.

Weve had our fish for four days and he just got put in his new 10 gallon from a gallon bowl last night. When we put him in he immediately set out exploring...not swimming fast like he was scared, but picking at the rocks and plants and just swimming around. This morning he is just sitting in the bottom of the aquarium, he could be asleep but its 10 am so i doubt it. So my question why might this be...he was energetic last night. The only thing i can think of is the cats were evidently watching him this morning (he was swimming around today before that) but they are only kittens and hes never had any bad experiences with cats. Right now i have his tank covered with a blanket for privacy and have been keeping the cats away. Dont know if its better to keep the cats away from him or let him get used to them:S Thanks for any advice.

I have guppy fry that are only 3 weeks old. However, 2 of them have black spots on their tails? Are they starting to get their colour, or is it something more serious? Also, if they are starting to get their colour, are they male or female? Because the colours dull, I think their females. Please help!!!

I have a 55 gallon aquarium with three rainbow sharks (about 3-4" each), five giant danios (around 3" each), one female beta (2"), a 6" long shark catfish, and a 6-7" long pleco. I need to trade the pleco out for a smaller one, and assuming I do, following the inch-of-fish-per-gallon formula, I figure I can add about 8-10" more fish to this set up. I was thinking a couple of angel fish might be nice - are their diets, tank/water requirements, etc., compatible with what I've already got, and would they be a good choice? I was also thinking of rosy red barbs, too - what do you think? The barbs or the angels, or something else entirely?

I've been using purified water thus far for my fishtank (55 gallon freshwater) and I've been doing well on that, but I've been thinking about switching off and saving some money and using the well water.

I don't know what the hardness of the well water is, but it is clean by way of nitrates and ammonia and it goes through a good number of filters and a uv light (some faucets go through the uv, some dont, actually).

Are there any tips or opinions i can use?

I'm looking for a great site, showcasing the difference in tail shapes in FEMALE Bettas. I have several different-looking females, and I want to be able to identify them.

There's lots of sites out there, but they all show off the difference in Males, which really doesn't do me any good.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

I was wondering if the rocks that I have been getting from the bank and bottom of my creek is safe for an aquarium. I am planning on using them for cave making in my 55G. Some are thin and flat, round, thick and square. Is there any way to accurately test them?

Thanks in advance!

We just put our new goldfish into his ten gallon tank last night. We have had him for five days now and I havent really noticed him eating eagerly. He is swimming around and active and seems very happy, just doesnt swim right up to the top to eat when we feed him. He had an old pellet floating in his tank last night and we watched and it kept hitting the current from the filter and rocketing down into the water where it would float around. He would notice it and dart at it, then he would suck it in and spit it back out repeatedly. We figure he is just exploring and learning, or maybe playing. But he wont eat the pellets and watching him spit it out so many times made me wonder if maybe they arent too big for him to eat. Hes only about 1 1/2 inches long ( a ruykin). Has anyone else had any similar experiences. And any suggestions to help him eat. We are currently giving him a pellet or two and some flakes at each feeding so he has a choice.

I just bought a male and am thinking of putting in a female as well as I'm told that males are only aggressive against other males. However, the woman at the aquarium store told me that if there is only one female, then they probably won't mate (and I don't want them to). Is this true?

Just recently got a 55 gal tank. My bf has previously owned fish and said we had to have the tank running for at least 2 weeks before we got fish.
It was running for about 6 days and he said it should be ok, so we picked up 2 German Blue Rams, 2 Swordtail koi, 2 bala sharks, 3 danios and 2 sucker fish (i cannot remember the specific name on those).
Well, the fish were doing ok for the first couple of days, (Tomorrow will be 1 week since we have had them) but he said it was looking like they had ick. We started treating the water with some tablets from PetSmart and it wasn't helping. Last night he did a test on the water and said the ammonia is at 10 (I'm almost positive he said 10). I know this is REALLY bad,
This morning one blue ram and koi were dead.
Are the rest of my fish going to die as well? And how do I get the ammonia down? Is there anything I can do to save my other fish?
