i have a single male betta and whenever i glance over to his tank, his face is all puffy. its as if to make himself look bigger. i think this may be a sign of aggression, but i only have one betta. so why is he acting like he is getting ready to fight? does this mean something else?

You have the right idea. The males and females will both do this. It's called "flaring" when they open their gill covers and spread their fins, and they are trying to warn other fish that if they're not in the mood for a fight, they'd better back off.

Chances are, he's seeing his reflection in the side of the tank, or the glass of the heater, and he thinks it's another male betta. Too much of this can cause him to be stressed, so it might be a good idea for you to try and figure out what he's flaring towards, and use plants (they can be fake ones) or a tank background so he doesn't see the reflection as often.

in the event that they used a attempt strip to aim your ammo that became right into a foul theory they dont paintings and supply fake readings a puppy save could be attentive to this. in the event that they used a liquid attempt and you observed them do it you're able to have ammo on your tank. if your attempt water left your internet site and that they got here back and stated there became into ammo then i could ask your self.i could advise getting your person attempt kit they could final over a 365 days.i wouldnt flow back their returned if the water left your internet site or they used a attempt strip.yet another element is their age you won't be able to tell how previous they're, and it may be from the breeding betas have been inbreed lots to get categories of fins and colours, so which you obtain a project all of us do yet once you obtain a breeder that doesn't take the main suitable steps to shrink the breeding and sells them the difficulty is handed directly to you presently if the fish save has the comparable project with there betas and that they get lot of returns for the comparable element they may be attempting to conceal their losses purchase blaming you whilst they get the undesirable fish. or it may be merely dumb luck the different costumer became into in there with the comparable project .additionally nitrites that are severe might reason death. that's difficult to tell thats why i could say attempt your person water with liquid attempt kit for ammo, nitrites and nitrates so which you be attentive to for advantageous once you flow in there with a project and that they cant say lots approximately that. each element is so sketchy so it may be difficult to do any element approximately it. i could get a attempt kit and flow some the place else to get fish

This is referred to as flaring,he is trying to show his dominance and show you who is boss. Some of my bettas do this when I go near the tank and if they saw another betta they would do that quite a bit.

If you have a mirror close to his bowl (or anything reflective) where he can see his own reflection, he will also blow up his face like he is getting ready to fight.
