I use to have the same problem when I first got my fishes. You should check the PH balance in the water. It might not be at the right level. If you find that to be the problem they have drops in the pet stores that you can add to the water. You might also want to check the types of fishes that you have in your community, the temperature and how fast you put them in after you change the water. I'm sure if you tell a personnel at a pet store that knows about fishes, they can help figure out what you need to add to make the water a little more suitable for the fishes. 9 times out of 10 it has to do with the water.
Also, check to see if the fishes came with some type of disease or bacteria.
Good luck!!!

How large were the spots? Did this look like something on the scales, places where the scales had been scraped off (open wounds), or color in the skin of the fish?
Please post the answers to these questions, so that we can give you a good diagnosis and ideas for treatment.
ADDITION: You mention having filters and a bubbler, but do you also have a heater? Bettas and most other community fish are tropical, so their water temperature should be 76-80oF.
The cloudy eyes, if they were like this before the fish died, would indicate an infection. Was it the eyes that had the orange spots or the body of the fish? If the eyes, this could be a parasite.

Take a water sample up to your fish pet store and let them test the water. Your chemicals are off, or something is not right with the water. Perhaps, some of the fish were infected with something when you bought them. If it's not been a very long time since you bought them, many pet store guarantee their pets. There are water treatments and other things that your fish store can recommend. See what the weather test reveals, get your tank back on track, and let the pet store replace the fish that you have lost. Good luck and take care... :) P.S.( sounds like 20 + fish in a 45 tank is a bit much) Could that be the problem? Not big on the breeds that you have, as I raise Convicts and Dempsies. Could be a factor. Check into it.

first of all i dont want to be even a bit mean but your doing almost evergthing wrong i swear im not trying to be mean but well a betta has to live alone they cannot be put in with any other fish and NO MATTER WHAT not another betta they will possitivly kill each other but well when you set up the tank did you let it run for at least 5-6 days because what that does is it let bactiria grow in the water and on the filter and the kind of bactiria that grows is a good kind of bactiria and fish need it to live other wise they will die and although you did a lot wrong you did a great job on putting more than one filter and bubbler thats almost the best thing for a big tank like that and well what kind of chemicals are you putting in the tank at the least amout of things in the tank you have to use AquaSafe and cycle the cycle you dont have to have but it will almost stop your fish from dieing another thing that could be making your fish die could be that well in your tank i take it that this is your first lets say batch of fish right you havent had any fish in it before ( i mean like in the same water and setup not just the tank itself ) another thing that it could be that well did you boil the rocks in the bottom of the tank before you put them in that could be a problem or atcually what could be a problem is that the fish that you put in there because different kinds of fish have different moodswhat im saying is that some fish will eat other fish and you cant have them in the same tank together (those would be the fish that you had or have left ) well i hope that this helped GOOD LUCK and remeber put the betta in a small vase or glass on its own and you said the behavior of the bettawas wierd thats normal and just how they are GOOD LUCK and i hope i helped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh and the guy above me is deffinetly wrong you DO NOT want to put your tank in the sun for three days that will bring the water tempeture up and all your fish will die faster than ever

you haven't any longer reported what length your tank is or what variety of fish you have. it is rather significant in helping to diagnose a difficulty. there isn't any longer sufficient guidance to proper diagnose the difficulty, yet to easily circulate with what you have. Tropicals choose warmth. they could have water it is continuously saved at between seventy 4 and eighty ranges F. conserving tropicals in chilly water will kill them rather quickly. the only fish which could stay in chilly water is goldfish. The temperature would not kill them off, yet having 10 or 11 goldfish in a single tank would relatively kill them until your tank became around one hundred-2 hundred gallons, which i'm doubting. You seem very unknowledgeable approximately fish. i'd recommend that, before you get any further fish, you do a lot of study and examining on issues including a thank you to cycle water, the nitrogen cycle, perfect water differences and tank cleansing, filtration, warmth, forms of fish and their guy or woman desires, what proportion and what forms of fish you are able to put in a particular sized tank and the thank you to perceive and cope with ailments. The extra awareness you have, the happier and extra healthy your fish would be which will make you satisfied too! good success!

There are many reasons that fish might be dying. But the 2 most believable reasons are ammonia poisioning or disease.
1st Reason: Ammonia poisioning
You see, fish produce waste as ammonia. Ammonia is poisonous to fish. Bacteria is supposed to convert ammonia into nitrites by a colony of good bacteria. Ni tries are just as poisonous to fish as ammonia. Then another colony of good bacteria convert nitrites into nitrates. The establishing of good bacteria is known as cycling a tank. Have you cycled your tank? If not, consider most, if not all, of your fish dead immediately, unless you take some action. You can google for more info on cycling your tank.
2nd Reason: Disease
Disease might have spread throughout the tank. Look for signs of stress or disease on your fish. You can google to find these out.

your fish are definitely sick, the best thing you could do right now is leave the sick in that tank and change the healthy to another tank with new water. another choice is to get medicine for your fish which is sold at local pet stores such as petsmart petco etc. make sure that when the sick die, you clean the tank(with no chemicals at all) leave your tank out in the sun for about 3 days that should be enough to kill the bacteria. make sure to leave the ornaments and anything else you may have in the tank in the sun too. make sure that you test the water before refilling your tank by going to your local pet shop. they will test it for free. buy a water conditioner that will eliminate CHLORIMINES. i hope this works, best of luck.

This could be due to the water quality as another poster stated, however it could very well be a parasitic infection or even a fungal infection. I would recommend using a treatment such as Melafix which is a natural treatment.
A partial water change would also be a good idea.
Good luck!

There's probably something wrong with the water. You may not be able to see it so I would suggest that you get a water tester kit and find out what's wrong. This might take some time and patience to clean off all the decors in the tank if there is something wrong with the water.

The cloudy eyes you have seen is actually called "cloudy eye"
Here is some info and treatment
http://www.thatfishshop.com/health/cloudy_eye.htm
The orange spots don't sound like a disease more like food particles, but if they would have been white, then it's ich
Or if it was more on the redish site then it was ammonia poisening
Hope that helps
Good luck
