My sister's male betta isn't swimming after she did her routine water change. She put dechlorinater in it, but now he's just sitting on the bottom of the tank. Every once in a while he'll come up for air, but he seems to rush up all at once. I have a tank of female bettas, so i put him in there to see how he would react, and he just fell to the bottom, and would again rush up for air paying the females no attention at all. She said he was acting normal earlier. Occasionally he's just float around the top, and his gills look like they may be infected (i'm not sure of his normal coloring tho) I'm wondering if he's just getting old, or maybe has a swim bladder problem. I don't want to just flush him, i want to try anything i can, so any ideas?

ive had an african cichlid tank for about 3 months now, and its thriving quite nicely, but today i noticed that one of my female cichlids color had changed. i BELIEVE she is a Pseudotropheus, although i cant be more specific than that (the pet store was poorly labeled). she was a light purple with dark purple tiger style stripes, and is now becoming yellow. the change is most noticable around the head and dorsal fin, with a light shading coming in around the scales.

the water conditions are fine, i have tested everything, and she is behaving normally and eating just fine....is this a normal thing for cichlids to do?

I am having a lot of questions arise about my fish tank, so please bear with me...

My first 10 gallon tank... Good water levels, and tempreature... I have 2 tiger barbs both a bout the size of a penny... and a sucker fish...?

1. What other fish should I add? What other fish would get along with the tiger barbs, and what would look good...?

2. Why do the tiger barbs I have seem to have dull colors when they are sleeping?

3. Is it better to buy the smaller fish or bigger ones from the store? Not like the different species, like is it better to get a small tiger barb rather than a large one?

4. Are live plants a good idea? I saw some bamboo in a tank, and thought that it was really cool... what about drift wood? and just other fresh water plants...

5. How would I go about asking for the gravel or filter from an established tank at the store...? do i pay for it... how does that work....?

I had ich. Started treating with salt and raised temp to 87 degrees. It didn't seem to be helping so I have been using the Jungle ich fizzy tabs. I used them for two days - in the past two days I have lost 5 rummy nose, 3 neons, a cory cat and a pictus. I have my last rummy nose on his way out and possibly another neon. Water parameters are good. Is this just par for the course w/ ich treatment? The guppies and platys seem to be doing just fine. They don't seem to be bothered at all. But, everything else is dying. What's going on? Also, I've been doing a 30-40% water change every day too. And yes, I am using water conditioner.

because of the heat I have to keep the lid open with a fan. 12 gallon nano reed aquarium.. The water level has been dipping and I need to have some water on-hand to keep the levels up so air doesn't get into the filter system. Since salt is evaporating I need to put in fresh water. What water can I add to the tank without any minerals? Distilled water??

The system in question is the 24 gallon Aquapod #7051 as found here: http://www.globeaqua.com/aquapod_nano_aquarium.html

I have 10 years exp in freshwater, but this would be my first foray into salt water tanks.
I have read (re-read, and understand) all the information found on this site: http://www.nano-reef.com/articles/ The information found there is the sum of all I know about the salt water reef aquarium.

I would plan to use about 36lbs Fiji Cultured Live Rock
(Scleractinia pcs.) from http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=2565
I would plan to use 40 lbs South Pacific live sand from http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=403
It seemed from what I read that fish/inverts go in just after rock/sand-- True?
You now know my level of knowledge, and exactly the system I am looking at, I ask you: Assuming I am diligent in water mixtures/maintnance, would using this system be rewarding or a disaster, and why?

My Bettas water bowl has an oily substance on the top and a semi opaque water. Ive changed his water with pure clean water, room tempature, and washed his rocks. He doesnt poop to much, and i watch him until he is finished eating, so i know he doesn't not finish his food. Nobody but me feeds him, so hes not overfed and the extra poop and pellets dont fall to the rocks. Is he sick or is there something wrong with the tank? I have a 15 day warranty on him, but i want him to stay healthy. His color is normal, and he's not flaking or spotty. He had no worms on him or in his bowl.Theres no substances being put in. Should i get plants or snails or something??? PLEASE HELP!!

So I noticed tonight while feeding my fish that one of my bubble-belly mollies has some discoloration. The fish is supposed to be a greenish golden color with stripes on it's sides...it's now almost completely white. Also, it hasn't been eating or swimming around much.

The tank is clean, and at a normal temperature for it. None of the other fish seem to be having problems.

What's wrong with it? How can I fix it?

Oh brother...2 days ago, when I introduced the female fish into the fish tank which has 1 male, the male fish keeps attacking the female fish...

Now, today I noticed that the female fish is attacking the male fish, and the male fish seem to be stressed about it.

could they be that they are hungry? I already feed them this morning with 2 flakes each.

Or could it be that the male is sick, and so, it's a target?

I got back from vacation and checked on my fish and found 4 babies. I know I am supposed to seperate them but I only have 1 fish bowl. Now I have 5 fish including the mother and I cannot keep them. What should I do with them? I can't sell them to a pet store because I don't know what kind of fish they are because they are from school and they are just gray guppys or something. What should I do?

He's only about six inches long and we keep him in a 25 gallon tank set up for wet/dry environments.

He's healthy and active and clean after removing several legs and neck.

I bought two dozen minnows at a bait shop to use as mosquito eaters in a kiddie pool next to my swimming pool. I could clearly see four minnows--all that were left up to date after they died off for some reason--yesterday and today when I went to look at them there were only three minnows and a frog that hadn't been there before. The frog is about two inches long and as fat as my thumb. Did he move in on me and eat one of my minnows or was one of my minnows actually a tadpole in disguise?

I have an empty 2.5 gallon tank. I would like something that is easy to care for and doesn't require a heater. I already have a betta, so I wouldn't like anymore. It doesn't even have to be a fish. It could be snails, etc. Any suggestions?

I bought a Black Moor Goldfish this past March from Petsmart and placed it in a 2 gallon Spongebob Tank I also purchased there. I love Spongebob! :P I realize this tank is small, but I figured for the time being, it would suffice. My fish (Phisher :)) has since grown bigger and I am going to upgrade his tank soon. I am worried that even with a larger tank, he might not grow, because he has been in the small one since March. I know many fish grow to their environment. I asked an associate at Petsmart, who told me it was alright since I hadn't had the fish very long ... But I wanted to see if anyone had more input! Also, Does anyone know how to tell gender on this species? Thankyou so much!! :D

Does anyone know what a glofish is? I just wondering if anyone can give me some tips on how to care for a glofish. I just got one today I think they are just zebra danios and I know those are schooling fish but they only had one left. As soon as they get a new shipment I will get two more. They are pricey though 8.99 a peice. He lives with a one cory catfish and one amano shrimp in a three gallon tank. How do you get them to glow in the dark.
