Buy a complet starter kit for a 20 gallon that includes already the filter and the heater, the filters they sell with them today are already really good, and it's also less expensive

definately gravel
real plants
any ornaments you want to put in there, they have a huge selection at petsmart ranging from $4 -$40 a piece depending on the size

Also don't forget that you have to cycle your tank before you can put any fish in there that are a little more pricy, here is a site that explains cycling with fish
http://www.firsttankguide.net/cycle.php

Hope that helps
Good luck

I'd buy a start kit with a tank, hood, lights, heater, filter, and filter cartridge. From there, I'd buy gravel, live plants, hiding places, and any other accessories that I feel my fish need:P

depends if you want a theme, but i have one my two 20s, aquaclear 70s (older models are 300) they will keep the tank clean.

All of my tanks have live plants, ranging from anabius nana to java ferns and moss. All of my tanks have driftwood and slate as well.

The gravel is just gravel.

None of my 20s have heaters, and their tropcial tanks, but they are in my room and the water is pretty warm.

As far as fish, boh are community tanks, tetras, barbs, livebearers.

im not really sure what you want as far as descripition goes, but if you have questions, please feel free to email me.
