Growing up the only pets that I had ownership to was Dogs, Cats and Birds, I never owned Fish, but I've always have been fascinated by them and other Aquatic mammals. One type of fish in particular and that's Koi Fish, where do i start?

What are the first things I should be learning in order to master the hobby of Koi Keeping?

Also, I'm just interested in raising my Koi as a hobby and for my personal experience only, I'm not interested in getting into the business of breeding or anything like that...

All advice is greatly appreciated....Thanx

Hello,
I have a ten gallon tank with these fish:

2 Angelfish (really small, like only 1 inch top to bottom)

1 Betta (Please don't give me any abuse about having a betta in a community tank. I have him trained sort of to be afraid of the angelfish.

4 Red Phantom Tetra

2 Small Tetra (Can't remember what they're called but only like 1/2 an inch long

1 Clown Pleco ( already an adult and only like 3 inches long.

So, How's my tank. Is it overcrowded? I have a twenty gallon filter on it. Can I add more fish? Let me know. Thanks.

They can be attached to each other, but I can't figure out how to space them apart in the tank. I want to put one in back and one closer to the front. I tried one of the bendable ones, and I don't like it. They keep floating up.

if i could put a sponge on the bottom of my normal filter
instead of that plastic thing with little slits

The "Correct pH" tablets fizz in the water and make the water nuetral to 6.8-7.2 pH. My tank is a 2 gallon, and this is the first time using the pH tablets.

Is there a downside to feeding betta fish worms, because i am trying to condition them with good food. I just bought some today and i fed them 3 small to medium size worms. Is that too much or too little? I am also feeding them some freeze dried blood worms also. Do you recommend any other foods? O yea, what cultures should i feed my betta fries, if i get there...
P.S. thanks for all your answers

I have a couple of hypothetical questions about Goldfish:
1) If a fish has been suffering from ammonia toxicity for awhile (at least a few days) and is generally in poor health, but is moved to optimal conditions, about how long should recovery take? I understand that "optimal" is hard to achieve, but I'm looking for a range here... I put the question in this format because it would take way too long to try to explain the situation.
2) I understand that most goldfish in aquariums are stunted. Will the goldfish always grow if given a larger tank? At what point in the lifespan is thee fish "permanently stunted" no matter how large the aquarium and how good the care? Once again, this isn't directly applicable to my fish (I think s/he's pretty young), but I've been trying to figure this out for awhile.

If you're curious about the particulars of my fish that prompted me to ask these "hypothetical" questions, please look at my other question, "Shoaling Fish"

Thanks!

Small tank (15-25 gallon), basic fish (tetras, corey cats, etc). Is an undergravel filter a smart move, or just go with the basic hang-on filter, or a combination of both?

my female betta has been displaying herself to the male confined in a seperate place, she has vertical stripes and is ready to spawn. The male, however, has been showing off by flaring his gills and darting around the tank but has not yet built a bubblenest. Do I allow them to be together and see if he gradually builds the nest as the plants the eggs, or should I wait and see if he builds one, and if he doesn't I should forget the whole spawning ideas? I need all the answers I can get, Thank You

My Freind has a large tank which contians two beta (I know, but they don't bother anyone) four babies, one goldfish, and a red tailed shark. She was unable to keep the shark inside the tank, so i took it for her, as well as a baby fish. The baby seems healthy and enjoys teasing my cat, but the shark is very pale, has a next-to-clear tail, and like to hide in his plastic catsle. I know their shy, but why is he so pale? The water is about 77 fahrenheit, so what's the problem, could the tank possibly be to small, it is smaller that my freind's. HELP!!!!????

I'm a college student and like most I have a tight budget. However, I'm madly in love with animals of all shapes so when my Fire Skink Wilbur passed, I decided to put his large tank to use. I'm looking for a fish that's easy to moderate in terms of care that I can keep by itself. I've looked into Eels and Wrasse the most [I'm into snakes so the long, large fish really appeal to me] and would like something with bright coloring. Salt water or fresh water would work. Thanks in advanced!

Okay, I have two tanks (I am not telling you the size of them for my own protection. The fish in them ARE in healthy conditions. I just don't feel like someone getting mad at me just because they think I need a bigger tank or whatever.) Anyway, in one tank are two male Betta's (separated of course) and in the other four Gourami's that I can't figure out the gender of. (all the dorsal fins look the same....). But anyway, I am getting a 20 gallon tank and this is what I WANT in it:

One of my Betta's.....
One or Two Paradise Fish.....
All my Gourami's ....
A School of Fancy Guppys....
A Couple Platies .....

Now I know this is an unrealistic tank. Not only is it most likely overstocking the tank, but, I'm pretty sure they aren't compatible (although one of my Betta's is rather calm).

Now, keeping my 'dream' tank in mind, what is a more 'realistic' 20 gallon tank?
