it probably is a swim bladder infection. I reccomed a partial water change and adding aquarium salt to the tank (this will help the fishies electrolites and help in killing any fishy paricites). Also check the ammonia and ph levels. As soon as you can get to an aquarium store where they will know what meds to give your fishy friend, it may not be too late. Also TRY to get food into him/her/it (try crushing up flakes so that it is easier for it to eat).

This really isn't very much information to properly diagnose the problem, but just going on the floating sideways that you mentioned, your fish may have swim bladder disease. If you've caught it early enough, you may be able to save it. It could be caused by constipation, a bacterial infection, a viral infection, an internal parasite or a congenital affliction. First, I would do a 50% water change and add some Amquel. You have to start at the beginning with SBD and assume it's constipation. So, you don't feed him for three days. Then you feed him thawed frozen peas, mashed with the skins removed. Feed the peas for 2-3 days. If this doesn't work, then turn up the temperature in the tank to around 78-80 degrees F and add some epsom salts, 1/8th teaspoon per 5 gallons of water. After 3 days or so, if this doesn't work, try Maracyn or Maracyn-2 according to the directions. Remove the media from the filter so that it doesn't remove the medication from the water. You may also wish to feed him medicated food in case it is an internal infection or parasite. If it is congenital, there really isn't anything you can do. In the event this is caused from something else, the first thing you need to do is to test your water to see where your water quality is at. Bad water can be toxic to fish. If you fish is sick for another reason, you haven't given us enough information such as what kind of fish is it, how big is your tank, do you have a filter, do you heat the water, how often do you do water changes, how much water do you change, how do you clean the tank? What does the fish look like? Does it have white spots, white cottony patches, red streaks, red patches, ragged fins, swollen, holes, etc. Good luck to you and your fish!

You need to give more info for a decent answer. What kind of fish? How old? How long has this been? How big is it? What kind of tank is it in?
It's probably dead by the time you read this;because this kind of symptom is not a good sign. Swim bladder malfunction usually causes this, and is not cureable.

Sounds like swim bladder infection. From what I read it throws off the balance of the fist. I don't think there is really much you can do. I had a male betta that had this about 1 month ago. He lasted about 2 weeks after the symptoms started. Sadly he did not make it. Sorry :(

my fish did that to for a while... I think he was sick but I mean my fish died.. not to worry though! um try putting so "ick" soultion in the water, if you don't have any go to the local pet store and get some. I would recomend asking them there about your fish. he/she could be depressed? Is there plants in there to make it feel more at home? Is the water to cold or warm? Best of luck to your fish and you!

I don't know anything about your situation.

What kind of fish?
How long have you had him?
Did you just change the water?

And so on.

Knowing nothing else, I can only tell you that he is going to die. I cannot tell you how to help him.
