is it ok for my agae eater to climb inside the filter? I don't want him to get hurt...

Not only can he get hurt or killed in the filter, he could cause it to stop and endanger the rest of your fish as well. Make sure the strainer is firmly attached to the pick up tube and it should solve the problem.

It depends on what type of a filter you are talking about. As long as there are no moving parts that could physically injure your algae eater it is probably ok. Depending on the type of algae eater you're referring to you may need to augment its diet with algae or shrimp pellets to insure that it is getting enough nourishment. You can find these at most pet and aquarium stores.

Not a good place for it. If it gets stuck in there,the water inside the filter contains the refuse from the tank before it's cleaned. The fish will not be able to swim around. There won't be any (good) food to eat.The filtering material may hurt its skin.

It depends on the type of filter you are using. My fish go down the under gravel filter all the time.

they are supposed to be eating the algae, not hiding in the filter. get him out.

I'd think about getting a strainer for the intake tube.

yup of couse as long as it doesnt go inside but yes it is okay
