My other fish are dalmation mollies, swordtails, neon tetras, diamond tetras, and a algae eater. There's plenty of room for him, but I don't want him to attack the others.

I've always heard they have to be alone, so I thought I'd ask before moving him from his lonely tank by himself.

We just got our kids a fish tank and fish for Christmas and we have the tank that is closed in on the top because we have cats and don't want them to get into the tank.
The only problem is that our tank after a couple of days starts to smell we have put distilled water in the tank to see if it helps but it still stinks when you open the lid. How can we keep the smell out and still have the fish.
We put the aquarium salt and everything we have filters and all. Please help I don't know what to do. The water is only about 2 weeks old.

I got 2 new gold fish this morning (12noon) and they are still hiding at the bottom of my tank (9pm). I have tried feeding them but they didnt go to the surface - they ate as the feed sunk to the bottom.

I have a catfish who is currently in a 55 gallon aquarium, and he is not going to last very long in there, so I need to get him a pond pronto. What size /shape of a pond would a channel cat be happy in (providing they grow to 4 ft sometimes), and what kind of filter, plants, equipment should I buy for the pond?

OK, I have a 50 litres (13.2 US galons) aquarium which I want to make a marine aquarium. Its quite small so I will not keep more than 4 fish but I have no clue about marine aquariums when it comes to filtration, maintanence and I would like to add corals and anenemies too. Is it really difficult to make it work? I am quite experienced with freshwater tropical aquariums so I am up for it.
Any personal experiences and any helpful websites would be much appreciated.
Thank you and have a happy new year!

My son aged 2 got on my kitchen unit, and managed to lose one of my fish. As i cant stand them, and they freak me out i had to ring around my mates for some one to come and find it. Managed to get my brothers round and they found it. The fish had been out of the water for about 20-25 maybe even 30 mins. Its alive! swimming in its tank, will it be ok, and how come it survived that long???

My son have guppies. They are multiplying and starting to over crowd the tank. I don't want to flush them. I'd rather have something that will eat them. Also need something to help keep the tank clean. I'm cleaning it every week.

Any one have any suggestions on weather or not to go with the white crushed coral stuff (that looks like sand) or plain moon light sand. What are the pros and cons? It's going to be in a chidlid tank with big rocks and driftwood.

our girls got an aquarium for christmas, on thursday morning we filled the tank up with water (normal tap water, nothing added, like the bloke in the fish shop told us to.) then we waited all day for the water to get to the right temperature 26 degrees farenheit. we bought our fish 2 angel fishes, 3 zebra fishes, 4 guppy's and 2 plecostomus. they were fine, but then the water now looks so cloudy you can't really see the fish inside. all the fish are just gathered in a corner by the filter and not really swimming around much. when we woke up this morning (saturday) one of the angel fishes were dead, it had lasted a day and a half. where did we go wrong, is it the water, should we have added something, is everything working correctly? please help!!!

I want to start an african cichlid tank but what can i put in there with them? For example snails, shrimp, or plants. I want to start a salt water tank without using a 90 gallon tank. What is the smallest tank you can start a salt water tank in.

I have a betta in a 2 gallon tank. I already have a junior heater in there along with a filter. The filter is made for small tanks starting from 1 gallon but my betta doesnt like the strong water flow. I really want the heater in there but was wondering if i could just take the filter out. My concern is that i was using the filter as a water "mixer" so that the heat would distribute in the tank evenly. But if i take the filter out would that still be ok?

I see these fish all the time in different tanks (usually larger tanks) and need to know the name of them. I am hoping they are suitable for a smaller tank because I think they are absolutely gorgeous and don't have room for a large one! They are black and orange usually (striped like a tiger) but thinner and smaller than the "tiger barb" variation, which is all I could find online.

Anyone know what kind of fish I am describing? Thanks!
