Clown loaches can get pretty big if the conditions are right. In a large tank with the correct environment, they can get to be over eight inches long or more. You also need to get a few of them for them to be happy.

Clown loaches grow to 16 inches, they need groups of 6 or more, so you need at least a 125 gallon tank for them.

maximum size is about 11 inches. They are a schooling fish and are relativly non-aggressive to other clown loaches of a smaller size as long as there is enough room in the tank. It's really amusing to watch them bumble around the bottom of my tank.

Watch 'em grow! Exo-terra sells shelled snails for reptiles, but they also work great for loaches. Snails comprise the majority of the indonesian fish's diet.

The majority of the clown loaches you buy in the US are wild caught and raised on snails and live foods such as brine and bloodworms. They will also nibble on live plants. The better the diet, the healthier and bigger they get.

Catflapdoodle's got the right answer. I first became acquainted with them back in the 1960's when my dad had two 50 gallon aquariums, and in one of them he put his larger fish, such as angel fish, and in the other one he put his smaller ones, some of which grew larger and he transferred over to his "big fish" tank. He did that with his clown loaches, and red tail sharks, among others, and both grew to be quite large as I remember. Of course, back then I was too young to care to measure them or know why I'd want to. They were just great to look at and fun fish. We used to love to watch how they'd try to hide under the almost too-small locations, and if we put aquarium "pottery" toys in there, they'd go "hide" in there and they were just so fun to watch. I hope you have fun with them. God Bless you.
