When did our society become so fearful of working breeds? Before the advent of media ratings, the Pit Bull, the German Shepard, Rottweiler, St Bernard, and others were honored members of the home! We used to know that breed did not make a dog "mean" and we used to think that it was very normal to raise children and large dogs together. Anyone know what is going on?

Happy mother of young children and working dogs!

..have any dogs AT ALL.... let alone some of these breeds that seem more/very aggressive..?

There is NO WAY a 1 year old would have the sense to not provoke or irritate a dog....

so why have one...?

I own a big-boned, long-haired german shepherd who is NEARLY 5 months old. (<<
At the moment he is 56 cnm tall standing (not from his head but from the middle bit of his body)
Could anyone give me a prediction of how tall he will be??

Im pretty sure that he will be bigger than most GSD's because of the fact that his big boned. plz tell me what you think.

Thanx!

I was woundering if anyone knows anything about Doberman's and Schtzhund?

How active and successful is the breed in this sport?

I know GSD's are the #1 in the sport and that there are not a lot of Rott's, but I can't find much on Dobies.

Just trying to find out how hard Boxers (Dogs) are to train? I have heard they tend to be fairly stubborn.

I think I have purchased a pom with bad genes. She came with AKC papers and a DNA verification but she is showing alot of bad qualities. Shes 9 week old and she has growled and really tried to attack my hand in the last few days- I ahve only had her 6 days now. My question is with professional training and obediance classes will I be able to "re-program" her to be a gentle loving dog that will not bite as a 1st reaction to something she doesnt like or since she may have come from a bad bloodline will I have to muzzle her and keep her away from kids for the rest of her life? I understand and know the differance of puppy playfulness and behavior- I had a pitbull puppy and she never showed this type of aggression.

i swear it's like a bomb goes off every 20 minutes.
also i think she might've gotten into some moose-munch half chocolate bar (with little soft turd surprises outside) or could cream cheese do it??

how did this all the sudden happen

heard that no good breeder will do mixed breeds. Why's this? What is the result? (I have been doing my research, just like to hear from you all.)
Also, anyone know of Labradoodle shelters or rescues or other somewhat 'shedless' dogs as roomie has allergies. Thanks!

Hiya. I have a pup and I'm not sure if she's a pitt or a mix breed...if she is a mix I think she's a Boxer/Shepherd or Mastiff mix. But I dont know...

Recently, my dog has been showing signs of premature aging. It seems that she's been having a bit of joint trouble (which is common for black labs), but I didn't think it would start this early. She's six years old and about seventy pounds.

I've also noticed her eyes seem really red and tired. Do you think she's sick?

We are thinking about getting a Burmese Mountain Dog, do we need a cage for one? They are large, but sweet and docile.

I was walking my beagle around the park the other day, and this middle aged woman, actually stopped me and asked me what kind of dog I have and I said beagle, she looked at me with all seriousness and said "that is one ugly beagle" later on we kept walking and Honey (my dog) barked at another dog, and we kept going and as I was leaving getting in my car the woman came over to and said her bark was terrible, saying she worked at the SPCA and she has never seen or heard a beagle like mine. This really hurt my feelings, I love my dog and want the best for her. I find out that this woman works at my SPCA do I go confront her for my dog and I, because I'm starting a internship there in Febuary. Or do I let it go and just figure she is ignorant and arogant? Below I posted a youtube video of my dog if anyone would like to see.

6mth old dobie x boxer, absolutely fine and listens(pretty much for his age) when he's off the lead but stops dead if you put a lead on him. he will walk if i have treats but other than that or if the treat stop he stops, is he being stubborn or actually scared. i know he is already scared of cars as he flinches everytime one goes past.

My small dog has always been somewhat overly aggressive. What to do against this?
Walking him for long hours doesn't do the trick. Neither did socializing as we have to leave the paw ground after a while, especially if there are other males.
He's not fixed and I am not planning on doing it because my dog is a mexican hairless and they can't take the normal anestesia. He is also slightly shaking in his sleep. We've been to the vet though many times and he's fine.
I bought the little guy when he was 10 weeks old from a family in Italy. We drove by there to pick him up and his mother was just the same - Too nervous and constantly tense, even in her sleep. At that point in time I didn't think of anything bad. Now I see he's like her.

Are there solutions you know of?
