Dogs - December 2007

i have 2 questions.

Today i was in a pet store. I know where the pups come from, puppy mills. I watched helplessly as a family was debating wheter or not to take home a min pin pup. I wanted to take them and shake them. i wanted to tell them that it wasn't worth the pain...

i looked down the rows. i hadn't realized it before, but they all looked sick. they slept, and slept, and slept. it broke my heart.

1)How do you feel about the petstore/puppy mill business?

2) why do people just blow this issue off like it isn't a big deal?
"this puppy won't have any health problems, it's a purebred."

This makes me want to scream.

A piece of ice fell off my roof the other day and happened to catch my ten year old golden retriever in the hip/leg. He has been dragging his legs and will not stand up without me lifting up his rear end first. And even then, he only saunters for a max of five feet. With it being directly after the holidays, what is the best thing I can do for him until I have the money to take him into the vet after the new year?

my male keeps turning on her every now and again,they get on so well and always together,they cant be without each other,they do every thing and go every where together!! its only since shes been preg and due soon that hes gone like this,im scared hell hurt her or do something to the pups could this happen please help???? im now scared to leave him near her just in case he causes her stress or something!!!

has anyone had a dog who got the cornavirus even though they got vaccinated? anyone got it without the vaccination? How bad was it in each case? I read and was told by a breeder that the corona vaccination is not necassary because:
A) it is not common
B) dogs over 8 weeks rarely get it
C) if they do, it is generally not very servere
D) dogs can get it even if vaccinated (the vaccination is not as effective as those for Parvo, distemper, etc.)
any thoughts?

my dog threw up some yellow bile and i found three worms in it about 4 inches long each he dosent seam to be sick and will still eat and drink water. He has plenty of energy, im just worried about the worms and our vet dosent open till monday the 31 or possiply the 2nd thats 2 to 3 days away

I'm sick of it. I'm sick of the genetic health problems they continue breeding. I'm tired of having to take in litters of puppies people left at the front of my salon and bottle feed them. I'm tired of going to animal control every week and seeing how many dogs are going to die at the hands of backyard breeding. I sick of people not spaying/neutering then having litters and giving them away and they end up in animal testing or dog fighting. WHy is it so hard to just breed responsibly?

So I put this question forth. Backyard breeders, can you please explain yourself to me and all the rescue workers and animals control officers who have to clean up your mess? Was it worth that money you probably spent through in a week? Was it worth 17 million dogs dieing because of you? Do you really not care that the dogs you breed end up terribly sick, and even euthanized? Do you not care about taking homes from potential rescue dogs? Please, explain to me so I can feel a little better.

I have a 9 yr old German shepherd and have only heard her bark a hand full of times when the kids have teased her in excitment,she never barks when someone is at the door has never barked at other dogs but she hears perfectly fine,does anyone elses dog not bark??

I'm going to be purchasing a maltipoo and the breeder said she will be ready for me Jan 12th. She'll be 6.5 weeks old. Is that too early to get her and bring her home? If you know or have any advice, please respond. Thanks!!!

My landlord brought his dog from China to the US three years ago. This dog bark fiercely everytime I passby the door. It has been three years now. Even the dumbest dog can tell who is stranger.

Most dogs wave their tails and even lick me when I first met them. I don't know what happened to this dog.

On Christmas day I lost my lovely dog that had been with me for over 12 years. I know that its not the end of the world and thank God my loved ones are good. I am just having a hard time adjusting to his absence. I got him when I was 10 years old. He was sweet, spoiled and most the memorable; he kissed you and cried when you cried. He was a huge part of me and my family. I know he is just a dog, but it sure hurts.

a dog came to our house (probably dumped) , she was pregnant. we were going to try to keep her. she had her puppies and then started jumping the 4ft cyclone fence. so we knew we couldn't keep her if we couldn't keep her in and safe. we took her and the 2 month old pups to the humane society. a relative wanted to adopt the mother so went to the society and she was gone. they said they had euthanized several dogs that day, and she was probably one of them, with a small possibility of adoption that day. i thought they were at least supposed to try to give them a chance for a home. the pound usually gives them 3 days.

I want to leash train a 11 1/2 month old Rottweiler how to heal and walk on a leash. He is also very excited when on a leash. I really don't think it's very easy to get him on a leash? How would you leash train him?

Another young life lost to a killer dog. When are we in this country going to have the courage to ban these killers.
And killers they are, because it is bred into them, just as a feral cat can be fed but can turn at any moment.
It's no good just saying it's the owners fault, some people are too stupid to think for themselves.
It needs a law to protect the innocent, because anyone can see, the vicious dogs act is way too liberal.
Why are these dogs not registered? If the law makers are too weak, at least lets have a licence for all dogs, with these dog owners being made to pay heavily. I would also advocate that all dogs to be insured, then at least recompense could be sort if someone is hurt, or god forbid another killing happens.

When will someone somewhere wake up.

ok i have a dog that was given to me and i am trying to figure out what breed it is. it looks like a chihuahua in the face and it has a long neck it is white with brown spots and it is a little bigger than a chihuahua so its not a toy dog
if anyone can help with an idea of what kind of dog breed it is that will help!
