Take the dog to the vet.
You can eff around all you want when it comes to your own injuries. A very important part of dog ownership is acknowledging experience (or lack thereof)
Most of us are novices when it comes to dog's wounds -- and we need to acknowledge this fact. This is especially important when it comes to our children or our dogs.

I agree 100% with Goldengal. Taking care of this now could save you a lot in the long run.
Someone said it doesn't need medical attention, but if it was a wire fence, all sorts of diseases could be on that wire that could be dangerous to your dog so sloshing it with something isn't good enough if it is a deep cut. Bacteria could already be going through your dog's blood stream and antibiotics would be a good idea.
If I had a 1/2 inch gash in my skin from a wire fence, I would sure want sutures and antibiotics.

it is best to take him to the vet and have them close it with sutures.
call the vet and explain your financial situation -- tell them your just not able to afford the entire bill at this time, but would be willing to make payments.
If the vet you normally go to wont accept you, then call a different vet.
if all else fails, and no vet will take you in and let you make payments (which i dont forsee happening) then get some proxide and neosporin ointments along with some 4X4 bandages and gauze wrap, first aid tape
clean it with the proxide and then put neosporin on it and a 4x4 and then wrap it with gauze bandage.your going to want to keep the area clean and dry and change the bandage at least twice a day since its open
again - call a vet and take him in - its much better for the animal and less stress on you to just have it sutured up,and there are plaenty of vets that will accept payments --
you could also call your local aspca and explain the situation and ask them if they can recommend anyone that would bewilling to help you out with medical care

no count if it is open, i could proceed with an antibiotic scientific care, and additionally get a vet out no count if it is severely swollen or heat. And barbed cord can wreck a horse in the event that they get tangled in it- no longer in easy terms ensuing in scars, yet unfavorable tendons and ligaments previous restoration. that's actual no longer proper fencing for a horse and that i could do away with it NOW in the previous the colt has of project to get into it back.

Clean the wound. Apply an antibiotic ointment. These wounds are hard to keep stitched. The wound will shrink as it heals. Keep the wound clean and keep applying the ointment as it heals. Watch for infection.

Quit going on yahoo answers and get the poor dog to the vet! If you don't want to spend the money on proper care for your pets, then find him a home that cares. If it gets infected he can die. Would you hesitate if it was your child?

Grind up some fresh Rosemary herb, put it on to the wound and cover with a bandage, look up some website on how to treat dogs with homoeopathic medicine, you should find something that helps, they often work just as well as vet treatment, obviously if the wound gets worse or your dog seems to be in alot of pain take him to the vets.
