Yes, you legally have to return the dog to the humane society. You signed a waiver when you adopted the dog that said you would return the dog to them and NOT sell or give the dog away to anyone else. They can actually sue you if they find out you have given or sold the dog to another person.
Go to the humane society and surrender the dog.
Before getting another dog, spend some time with the dog at the shelter to make sure the dog is actually calm and sweet. Many shelters do not mind if you come in every day for a week or so to spend time with the dog before adopting it.

I would first contact the humane society to see if they want to take her or if they have the space to take her.
I am a rescue volunteer and all dogs that we adopt out essentially remain ours. If it doesn't work out with an adoption (whether 1 week or 10 years down the road), we require that the dog be returned to us.
If the humane society has the space, I'm sure they'd take her. If they don't, then ask them for recommendations on where you could take her.

They will take her back, but you should have realised it's always a process adopting a dog they usually have some issues from not been trained properly and it always takes time and patience to get them to relax and settle in to their new environment. i've rescued several dogs and it's always a challenge in the beginning but couple of weeks later it's so worth the effort. I would never part with mine now. I know it's difficult with kids but you need to teach them how to behave around dogs too, that dog must've passed a behaviour test to be allowed to be adopted out so it shouldn't be aggressive. I suggest you read up on dog behaviour and training before giving up on the dog, this is why there is so many animals in shelters in the first place. Dog's are not born bad or naughty, unfortunatley humans make them that way with ignorance, lack of patience and laziness.

Yes they will.
They shouldn't frown down upon you for returning her. They are more worried about finding a match for the dog as well as for the family. Just explain to them her behavior problems so they can work with her some more or even match her up to a family with no kids.
They usually will ask you if you would like to find another dog more suited to your family needs and try to match you up with anpther great pet to take home.

Yes, they will take them back. We got a dog that was originally adopted and returned....so I know it can be done. They would be more happy to take the dog back than to have something else happen to it.

SURE you can! You can take any cat or dog to the humane society, even one you adopted from them. There is no rule saying you can't.

Yes! They might even give you half of your adoption fee for returning the dog. Back in September I just adopted one and she started biting my other dogs and bossing them, so I returned her, they took her back.

Most Adoption Agreements state that if for whatever reason you cannot keep the adopted pet it should be returned to them.
