That's where they are suppose to go! Why would you want to deter your dog from that?
ADD:
Since it's your neighbors dog, why don't you have a talk with your neighbor? If that does not help, I heard others resort to more drastic measures such as putting it in a paper bag on their doorstep with a note that reads "You forgot something" or "A gift for you" or "This was left at my house by mistake".

Could you be a bit more specific - is it your dog? In that case, take him for a long walk every day and praise him when he poops (and pick it up!) After a such few lessons he'll get the message and you can get into your summer clothes again ;-)
If it's neighbours' dogs, first of all fix the fence, and if the problem persists have a friendly word at first, you can always get tougher. If it's open-plan gardens and strays are fouling it, call the dog warden. If it comes to getting tough, have photo or video evidence - and stay polite, it's always best!

When you see it happen, go speak to the owner and politely ask them to clean it up. If it is from a loose dog, call the animal control. Other than that, a fence would be the best way. I once had a neighbor who let her dog loose every night. He would poo in my yard and tear up the neighbors lawn. One night, I caught the dog in the act and went and told the neighbor to please clean up the dogs poo. And I told her, the dog was not supposed to be running loose, but since he was, if she didnt clean up after him I would put his poo on her lawn every morning. she was not happy with me, but I put up with it for a long time, and have 3 dogs of my own. The dog never went on my lawn again, and she stopped letting him loose at night. Good luck

Scatter moth balls on the lawn. Dogs and cats don't care for the smell and steer away from them.

Put up a fence?
I dont think there is anything you can do besides physical separation, or training it to go on a separate part of the property using operant conditioning.

My neighbor has a fake tombstone on her lawn. It reads "Here lies the last dog that S*it on my lawn." Since she put it up, she has had no poop on her lawn.
