when i was living alone, the only one i really needed to care about was my dog Poncho. that was 4 years ago. my little girl Alex is a very small and shy girl. now Poncho has never been hostile to others, but hes a chow chow and i always hear that thats their thing, true? thing is that the two of those play with each other a lot (at least i hope they're playing) they like to play tug o war a lot with the dog toys, like she's a dog or something, but anyways, when Alex is minding her own business and poncho comes and sniffs her, she bops him in the nose which is really cute if you could see it (tiny girl bopping a dog in the nose almost a head bigger then her) but i think that she could really get hurt one day if he decides not to take it any longer or something.

honestly im just really bad at reading both Dogs AND little girls.

I live in a condo area and my neighbors on each side in the last year adopted small dogs that yip and yap at absoloutely anything because they've not been trained and are not walked frequently enough. Any noise will set them off. A fly...a falling leaf...any disturbance or change in their sequestered little world will set them off barking and I'm getting sick of the noise. I love dogs, really I do. But I'm not going to walk my neighbors dogs for them and I doubt I could convince them to watch The Dog Whisperer on Animal Planet and pick up some basic advice on dog training. I'm not so low as to poison the dogs (a heinous crime). But they're a nuisance and I'm reluctant to cause neighbor strife by complaining to the police. The barking is'nt all day or night...just intermittant throughout the day but it is that little yappy dog barking that just pisses you off, you know?. And no-one can exit or enter the front or back without setting off a barking party. Any bright ideas?

I am currently trying to house train my puppy and one of the confusing aspects is what to do when you catch your puppy in the act of peeing inside. Some say to scold the puppy and make it a big deal. Others say that scolding will only make it worse. What is, in your opinon, the best thing to do if you catch your puppy in the act of peeing inside? Some say I should pick her up and rush her outside but that would involve putting on my shoes and coat, and by then she's already well finished. Thanks for your help.

I know the most popular one is pedigree. But is there any other cheaper but good quality dog food. Perhaps 'Alpo'. What about treats? Can I use the dog food as well? Or can I use treats with no brand?

What age is apropriate for the exchange? Should I buy a whole big pack of dog food or smaller packs?

Please answer.

What do you do for your dogs? Do you buy them presents ect.

I usually get mine bones from the butcher for thanksgiving, and I make them dog biscuits/cookies for Chrismas. I also get stockings for them with new toys and maybe a few extra treats?

Do you do anything special for yours? Any traditions you have with yours? My fiance likes to make my Malamute a igloo out of snow in the winter~~My mal loves it!!

I have a year old beagle/lab mix, neutered male. He's pretty easy going, VERY smart, and lovable. Today at the pet shop I noticed they had a female beagle pup on sale, and I fell in love with her. I toyed with the idea of bringing her home but decided against it. I'm afraid my boy will get very jealous, he's very attached to me and I don't know how he'd do with having to "share his mommy" LOL. He's well socialized with other dogs, I take him to play with my boyfriend's 4 dogs and my brother's little dog and he gets along just fine with them, but I'm hesitant to actually bring another dog into the house because of jealousy. Is it easy to introduce two dogs into living with each other after one has been the only dog and have them get along? Like I said he's really attached to me and I'm afraid I will hurt his feelings as silly as that sounds!

My family is planning on getting a puppy next week (we are moving to a new apartment that allows dogs, we've always wanted one but could not get one because of where we live currently)

Now... here's my question: When I bring the puppy home for the first time, I'm planning on letting it roam around in my room in the beginning... and of course I know it will pee and poop all over the place. Am I going to expect permanent stains on the carpet, or can these kind of stains be easily washed off? It's not a big deal because I know these things are bound to happen, I just wanted to know for my own info.

Also, I will have to make sure the whole room is puppy proof, right? ie; no small objects on the floor, keep computer wires covered and unexposed. I just want my new puppy to feel as comfortable as possible... I've wanted one ever since I could remember... it's like I am getting a baby <3 I can't wait!

I personally think its cruel and unatural to nuetuer and spay dogs/cats if they werent meant to have reproductive organs they wouldnt have them in the first place. Just because humans dont like that on them shouldnt give them the right take off the reproductive organs. plus if everyone removes them than eventually wont dogs cease to exist because people dont like them breeding?

my dog is so annoying sometimes. we have never used the crate for punishment....its where he sleeps at night. but lately he has decided the crate is not for him. when we tell him to come, he won't. i always take him outside right before he goes to bed. and he just wont come in the house, he makes us chase him around.

we have decided that we will start to keep a short leash on him so he respects us, and knows that he comes when we say come....do you think this is a good idea?

any advice would be great.
