Ok, this is going to sound silly. I adopted my puppy a week ago and this morning I had to leave him alone in the house. He is in the kitchen, behind a gate, so he has plenty of room. But I am so sad to have left him! He was crying and looking at me with those sad little puppy eyes. He is only going to be left alone for about 4 or 5 hours, and he has his bed, toys, food and water but it is the first time he has been left alone. Will he be so sad the whole time? I'm such a wimp!

my partner's ex wife gave away his dog days after he left the family home. He was due to come round and get the dog, but she rang him and said it had run away. He spent 2 weeks looking for the dog before she told him she had actually given it away and she wasn't going to tell him who to. We think she probably sold it as it was a great pedigree although it was neutered. All we know is that it was another mum she met through the school and that this mum has now moved to sheffield. None of their mutual friends know anything more thanthis, not even the woman's name.
Is there any way we can find the dog and offer some money to it's new owner to get it back? Are there any websites or similar? Any other advice on how to handle the situation appreciated. My partner and the kids are still devasated about the loss of the dog a year on.

Hey all, i currently have two kittens and wish to get a dog. I am going to wait until the cats are a year old because i think that will be safer, however i need your opinions.

1) What type of dog is best suited to cats. Im not sure if any are but if they are i would like to know. (I would like a bulldog tbh)

2) How old should the cats be before i get a dog to make sure that they will be safe

Thanks in advance

I have to take my puppy (10 week old) to work with me, he stays in the back of my van and sleeps until lunch when i play with him and give him his 2nd meal.

I had been letting him out for a pee and poo at work, on some grass behind the building, dogs are walked around near my work.

He's had his first injection, he is let out only for his pee and poo, then is straight back in the van.

Should i continue doing this, or just get some training pads and have him wee in the van? Or would he be fine holding it til he gets home? He holds it all night, and will pee on command for me.

I want to do the right thing for him

I'm fostering a one week old, orphaned, singleton pup from my work. My dogs usually do fine with fosters, but this pup is really bringing out the maternal instincts in my greyhound. She sits outside the door to the room and won't leave. She paws at the door, lays in front guarding it, she was even whining at it this morning. The times I've had to bring the pup (in it's carrier) into the rest of the house she has not left the carrier's side. I can tell she's had quite a few litters before we adopted and spayed her from looking at her mammary glands. Any ideas on ways to distract her?

i have a chihuahua that is about 9 months and something is wrong with her eye. i noticed it yesterday morning that her right eye was lower than the other and she kept blinking it and the white part was red. now this morning when she wakes up her right eye wont even open. when i got home yesterday my dad told me to wash her face with warm water and he told me to do the same again once i told him that it wouldnt open.

Everything has been normal and fine with her but i was thinking that she probably could've been alergic to carrost i dont know. i tried to give her one, she reallt didnt eat it she just chewed most of it up and spit it out.

well please someone help me if you can tell me whats wrong with my pup :-/

I am buying a dog in 2 weeks and the owner said icould take her home early if i wanted too before he got her their shots. If i took her home early then i would have to bring her back the day of her shots and then pick her back up. Is this a good idea?

Do you find it to be a hassle? Are the rules in your region very restrictive? Are transit employees very arbitrary in enforcing - or making up :-( - rules?

I'm interested in becoming a dog handler. I've had dogs my whole life and have done jr.showmanship, agiliity and obedience. I do need some refreshing on conformation since it's been a while. I'm 34 and I absolutely love ALL DOGS! I'd be willing to do this for free. I'm personable, look nice, work well with dogs, and I think I'd make a great handler. I'm not talking about big time yet! I live in Michigan about an hour from Chicago, hour from Kalamazoo, MI and hour from South Bend, IN and can travel up to 3 hours. I basically would love to eventually breed and show dogs but I need a lot more time around experienced breeders and in the show ring! I currently have 2 Shetlies (my favorite breed of all time!) but although verey lovely, they could be shown but wouldn't excel and I don't believe in showing a dog unless it has "FUTURE CHAMP" on it's head. The one is incredible at agility and obedience and she's still only a year and a half and I'm waiting till (CONT'd)

We like to let our dogs have alot of outside time when the weather is nice..well in the summer flies can be an issue...especially when you live on a farm like we do... What do you do to prevent fly bites on the ears?
We use fly predators to help keep the fly population down and also use the oil based fly spray we put on our horses on their ears... we spray it in the palm of our hands and rub it into the ear...

just curious what others do to help with or prevent this issue

Just reading the pages here, how many poor dogs are laboring, delivering or have pups stuck inside? Does this make you as sick as it makes me? Those poor dogs with owners that never took the time to learn or save for emergencies. And this is just on YA. How many suffering dogs and pups must go through this before people see the harm they cause?

My newfie somehow has managed to learn that there is food inside the refrigerator and he himself opens the door with his paws and then messes up things inside. He would throw lots of food on the floor.

He would sometimes grab the turkey slices from refrigerator and then tear the pack on his own and consume it. He even consumed raw eggs.

He is very well fed and is kind of overweight too.

My question is how did he get to know that food exists inside the refrigerator and that the door can be opened with his paws or mouth?

How to stop this behavior?

Should I call police? My boyfriend thinks I am overreacting?
Where I live it is -17°C / 0°F.
I saw this poor dog in a dog kennel on the back of the bed of the truck.A German Shepard I think.
On top of this bad situation the truck traveling at least 100km/ 63mph.
I memorized the plate number, so I could report it as soon as i got home.
When I got home and told my boyfriend said that I was totally overreacting and that the dog is fine.
would a dog survive that temp outside of a truck?
Or should I report this stupid person to police.

I feel so bad that I did not do more while I was driving behind the truck.
I know if it were me in that dog place, I WOULD BE DEAD.

I am searching for techniques to curve behaviors, she isnt unloved thats is for sure yet, she is taking over the home and my family should be the Alpha Dominants as opposed to the dog running the house. Yes, she has a "house"/cage. she is feed at the same time and such but yet, she definatley is very protective of her home and all of us here (4) family members. When we have house guests thats where the issues take place, the barking, the glares, the agression and so on... I want her to protect us but I refuse to loose my home and such to a four legged animal suggestions??????????

There's a petstore in New Jersey I used to visit called Shake-A-paw. They get their puppies from breeders in the tri-county area, a lot of their dogs were friendly and looked healthy. One thing though...do petstores in other states get puppies from local breeders or what?

I only ask this cause my Mom had talked about breeding our female beagle and male pug. Though we'd probably post an ad on craigslist I was just curious if a petstore would take them at all.

(Please don't post: fix your dogs or don't breed your dogs)

MY folks are NOT backyard breders, both of my family's dogs are healthy, given good quality dogfood, attention, etc... both dogs are always happy to see us when we come home from shopping or doing something else.

Just curious, I got a beagle about a year ago. She's a tricolor female, my folks got her at a pet store when she was 10 weeks old. Anyway, we were told she had a hernia when she was born, she also has papers.

When she was a puppy she went to the bathroom a lot, she's gotten better but she still goes but not as much as she did as a pup.

We found out from the vet she also had allergies which is common for dogs that live in Nevada(where I am).

We switched the food that we give her as well as the cleaning product we use to mop the floor. It's helped, but one thing though I was reading an article about pet stores getting pups from puppymills. Several of the petstores I've seen and been to get their dogs from USDA approved breeders. My female beagle came from a beagle breeder in Iowa, her papers even have the breeder's phone number.

Would the hernia have something to do with my beagle's bladder problem or what?

she's a healthly and is best friends with my sister's pug.

i'm debating whether or not to buy a dog bed that says it protects against odors AND FLEAS. it's nylon, fleece, cedar, and orthopedic foam. i know cedar helps with odors, but does it help protect against fleas? please only answer if you have some genuine knowledge on the subject. thanks!

the stoopid people behind me have three dogs and one of them is in our backyard. has been there half the day. this has happened before with a different dog but same owner. the last one was about the same size as mine. the one this time looks like a pit bull mix. :o

i just let my dog outside and i usually hear him bark or making noise.......all i hear is silence......so i go check on huim and i see this dog chasing him at full speed. i had to call his name and let him in the house and close the door quick enough so the other dog wouldn't get in. :o

i don't know if they were playing or what because i heard no growling or barking. and they are always at the gate with each other.(they have three dogs)

how can you not wonder where your dog is.......or maybe they are alright with their dog being outside all dang night.

should i call a dog catcher? do we even have those in memphis? i know nothing about them or their dogs and i don't want the dog in my yard overnight.

what should i do!
i want something done tonight. i would open the gate and let it run out but i don't know what it would do to me.

i'm so pissed right now!!!!!

My German shepard likes to chase the cat. The cat was hiding in the box and my shitz tzu came up and did something to the German Shephard. It was a kind of like stop messing with the cat thing...... So my German Shepard starts to do this shaking of the lip thing, and then shows her teeth. She didn't growl, and her tail was halfway down but curled and ears were pointed up. I told her no and she stopped but I'm not sure what she was going to do. What does this mean and how should I handle it. I would say that the shitz tsu is mostly the boss. I'm not sure how long the German Shephard is going to take it.
