Hey all, i currently have two kittens and wish to get a dog. I am going to wait until the cats are a year old because i think that will be safer, however i need your opinions.

1) What type of dog is best suited to cats. Im not sure if any are but if they are i would like to know. (I would like a bulldog tbh)

2) How old should the cats be before i get a dog to make sure that they will be safe

Thanks in advance

Any dog can be raised with cats. Its always easier to get a puppy cause he or she will grow up with them. I never allow any of my rescues to associate with my cats at all. They know they are off limits and if they don't know, they quickly learn. They are so trained to ignore them that if one of the cats comes in and rubs on one of the dogs, the dog will get up and go lay somewhere else.

Sometimes a breed or rescue agency will tell you if the dog is good around cat or has been exposed. I think at a year old it should be fine that way you can give them plenty of attention now as they are young. I would not wait to long however because the cats will adjust better when they are younger and not so set in there way. Older cats can have a harder time adjusting. Best of luck

I prefer to get the puppy when the kittens are young so they can grow up together.
I have a standard poodle and a golden Retriever. My one cat likes to go in the dog crate ( my standard poodle still likes to sleep in the crate but the door is opne and the cat crawls up with the dog. My other cat and dog sleep at eh foot of my bed.
They were all raised together and get along great.

I agree get the pup now, that way you do not have them tearing up home as they get older and Pup starts chasing them, this will be like raising kids all at one time, get them all grown and out of you hair sort of speak at the same time only these do not leave nor do you have to worry about the college funds and all that.
Best wishes,

Added. Stop stressing a pup that is of your choice, it does not matter what you have in mind, start all of them out young. pup between 8 weeks to 14 weeks. how old are the kitties?
