I plan on taking my dog to NJ by plane from CA. I read that NJ requires a pet health certificate. How much does it usually cost?

Since the temperature will be below 45F, AA requires an acclimation certificate. What's involved in getting one of these? Will the vet need to put my dog in a refrigerator for a while or what? How will they know that my dog can withstand 20-45F temperatures?

For those in LA, can you recommend a vet for this air travel business?

I just received my new beagle pup yesterday, he is 9 weeks old. He cries a lot (and it seems for no reason) and it's a really piercing yelpy-howl. How long is he going to do this before he calms down a little? Esp at night, but I refuse to let him sleep in the bed or on the couch, he has his little crate. He is an indoor dog (he has to be or else the coyotes will eat him) and I was also wondering if anyone can suggest the best potty training method for a male beagle, I heard they are very difficult to train. He seems to be really confused by the concept of where to poop and so am I (hahaha not for myself, you know what I mean). Yes, I know I am retarded but I have never had a puppy before that I had full responsibility for and I am overwhelmed by this new little, very bratty creature! He was raised outdoors for the most part so far, so whenever I take him out after he eats or drinks water he just wants to play outside and then he comes inside and poops on my carpet.
Any advice?

She was not acting normal. Took her to the vet and she said that she has an enlarged heart. On top of that she has pneumonia too. I know enlarged hearts are fatal. I was hoping that maybe since she is young there is a chance for survival. She would have a greater chance if she did not have pneumonia on top of it. Can anyone give some encouraging words?

I think that it is sad that a person who is getting a puppy can not ask a question, without people jumping down their throat. DOGS ARE NOT HUMANS, it is great to have your puppy inside to socialize with the family, but do any of you work?? Do you pay for daycare for your pup? So are you telling me that you have your eyes on a dog at all times like a human child? Dogs are apart of the family, but don't take it so far to say sleep outside naked in the cold, would you send your 3 year old child outside to play in 53 degree weather w/out a jacket...no would you put a jacket on a dog?? Are you being cruel for not putting one on him? Are you telling me that if it is 32 degrees outside it is wrong for me to put him in the garage, because I don't want my house to go to shreds while I am at work? FACT is that dogs are apart of the family to some degree, you wouldn't leave a kid in the car, leave a kid at home while you are at work etc. Just give facts about dogs, don't get crazy!!!

Whenever I move through the house, the dogs deliberately turn into my path. After decades of living with dogs, I still run into them. What's the deal?

My much beloved 13 yr. old faithful female shihtzu is losing her hearing and sight but is in very good physical shape. She has taught herself ?? a new habit i cannot tolerate. I am quite sick myself. I will not get rid of her. I just need to know how so stop breaking her of barking, it is not necassary, how can I teach her to not bark to get my attention when I leave the room etc. I think I just need to retrain me and her and replace this bad habit with a good one. Please don't "pick" on me, I am doing the best I can. and IT WILL NOT BE IN ANYONE'S BEST INTEREST TO GET RID OF HER. ok ? POSITIVE ANSWERS ONLY, NOT CRITICISM I am too sick to handle it thanks so much Wendy
She never was a barker and I recognize she is trying to stay connected to me, but I'm sure we can develop an approach that meets all our needs and no I don't have someone to call, I have no money to use for that.

I fostered a yellow lab for a friend while he and my husband was deployed. He was 4 months when we got him and I potty trained him and he was fantastic around my children. Needless to say we had to give him back when my husband's friend returned. I had growned attach to him and I loved him dearly. My husband saw that I was sad and he got me an early christmas present, a 8 week old golden retriever. A friend of mines says that was a big mistake with me having a 11 mos old baby. my husband says that he and my baby will get used to being around eachother with proper training. I have already grown to adore our new puppy, and he wasnt cheap either - i dont want to lose him but now i am afraid. did i make a mistake?

I was wondering b/c their dog (pit bull) had jumped my fence while the gas man was there today and it scared the crap out of him. I keep my fence chain locked and luckily I was there to unlock it and get the neighbor. I also have a pit and she's not at this residence at this time. If her dog jumped my fence and the dogs fought I would be PISSED and would want to take her to court! Would she be liable in either of these circumstances? BTW I own my property and she rents.

There has been a marked increase in crime in the Poconos including home invasions. So we are considering one or two guard dogs for our home. We have three children in our country house 11, 9, and 6. Two acres of wooded property.

We are considering Doberman Pinscher, German Shepard, or a Rottweiler breed. We are open to opinions on other breeds. Anyone care to opine or give advice as to breed? Whether we should pay extra and get a dog already trained in obedience and guard dog training? Etc. Also opinions and advice welcomed.

To all Chihuaha breeders on YC. I have a 5 month old Chihuahua. We used to feed her Science Diet. She than became tired of it. So we switched to Purina Puppy Chow. I /we can' t make her eat. She is pruned to be hypoclycemic. So when she get's letargic I have to give a few zips of syrup. Neverthless, she refuses to eat. Whats the magic trick to make her eat her three daily meals again? Remember she is still a baby.
